    Default Best Modern Spider Master?

One thing I was wondering, who is the best "modern" Spider-Man writer, Slott or JMS?

It feels like I am slighting greats like Jenkins, Wells and PAD by not including them in the poll, but none of those writers had as much control over the character or as long of a tenure on such a high-profile book as the two in question did.

I think both are comparable because they both gave Peter an 'adult' job that he hadn't had before, both redefined his relationship with Mary-Jane, both set him on an 'arc' of sorts and both used other heroes like the Avengers heavily. Both also wrote Peter's "death."

I chose not to include Bendis as USM is its own world. I like both, and will answer who I prefer later on. To vote 'neither' is an option, but to vote that you liked both is not because this is about seeing whose work is preferred.

Personally....my preference of the two is JMS, but then again, the only three I really loved, enjoyed reading out of that entire run is Pete's talk with Aunt May (Vol.2 #38), Reconciliation with Mary Jane (Vol.2 #50), and issue #500. In between that and after, is mostly just all-agonizing TOTEM, SINS PAST, and CIVIL WAR.

Used to like Dan Slott.....for Spider-Man / Human Torch. But....since and thanks to Amazing Spider-Man....consider even my enjoyment of that mini long erased....

    So....neither.

Modern of consistency I would put in my book, is Peter David's Friendly Neighborhood run - for his uses with Peter Parker, Flash Thompson, Betty Brant, Vulture, Mysterios, Sandman, "Miss Arrow", "Uncle Ben", J. Jonah Jameson, even Debra Whitman, of all back-outta-nowhere people!

Bendis. With Slott a close second.

Recent? JMS and Bendis. There really isn't anyone else.

Slott just got me back into reading Spider-Man, so... him, I guess.

Roberto Aguirre Sacasa is largely underrated. He's one of the guys that really get Peter Parker and Spider-Man.
Doc Ock - I'm Peter Parker.
Peter Parker - Not anymore Spider-Man. From now on I'm Peter Parker.

    Good post Ryan. - Oldschool

I cannot recommend Scarlet Spider enough, but here's trying.

Both had good, even classic, stories but I feel Slott's overall body of work on ASM is much more consistent and solid than JMS'. But I also want to give a shout-out to Joe Kelly who I thought wrote some terrific stories during the BND era----I would not mind seeing Kelly have an uninterrupted run as some point, perhaps on a satellite book or mini-series of his own.

I prefer Slott over JMS. A big part of it is that I probably enjoyed the artists Slott has had over those during the JMS run.
