I have never read an issue of this title. In fact, not counting JLD, I haven't read more than a half dozen Bennet stories - ever. I only bought this issue because it promised, in an excellent solicit and cover, the true new52 origin of DCU vampires! Did it deliver? I read it but cannot review it 'cuz it lost me.

There was a flashback. A masonry block from heaven. A woman turned by a 'Cain' that later turns into something worse. Some tie to the Van Helsing name. And a big fight between some two factions. Could someone explain it all please? I don't think it's my bad because the story should deliver for new readers.

It was interesting to see Constantine appear. And the good guys(?) saying "NO!" to the scarred-eye guy was (probably?) a really funny moment. At the end it looks like Bennet has transformed into something as nasty as 'Cain's' woman centuries(?) ago.

DC's vampires don't seem as worthy to be watching as Marvel's. Well, except maybe Looker.

You're confusion COULD be the fact that the story is finishing up it's story. Like in 3 issues. You A. Jumped in the middle of an arc and B. Jumped on a series that builds on itself. I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend starting from the first trade-what will be the 3rd trade. Another thing that brought this issue down from it's natural high point was the art and how it couldn't make the story clear. The main artist is off for the finale 4 issues because DC pulled him onto another project (Which I wish didn't happen. The guy is amazing and should have been allowed to finish up the book) and so they threw together a group of rag tag artists to finish the series.

Though I was a tiny bit confused with what exactly the block does and what Charles was doing with some bead looking things (Though I'm 88% sure it was just the chalk). But I'm sure they will be explained in these final 3 issues.
