Default 2013 is OUR YEAR, Super-friends!

No more listening to why Superman can't sell, or is "passe."

No more watching SMALLVILLE while Batman and the Marvels break box office records.

No more ineffectual portrayals and watered down "events." (I hope.)

We're going to see the climax of the best run on a Superman monthly in ages. Followed by Andy Diggle getting his shot with the big guy.

DC is putting their two biggest guns on a new Superman ongoing.

And we're going to get a new DC Animated feature adapting one of the better arcs in the last few years.

Oh, and we're getting a brand new feature film (Please be good).

We may argue about which Superman we like more, and how he should be portrayed, but we all love Big Blue and want to see him succeed. May this be the first year of many that puts him back on top of the comic book world!

Nice post! I agree whole-heartedly. I don't know about you guys, but I feel like we've been cheated for so long, mustering up all this attitude for defending Big Blue over the years knowing damn well how things stand and having nothing to show for it. I feel our fanbase is just licking their chops for things moving forward and I feel Superman will be THEE character to follow again and we will sit back and crave it all in. All those "snickers" will turn to cheers and we'll soak in it all. Sometimes I feel like it's us against the world, so much, that I have my crew setting up a Super-night before the screening of Man of Steel in June. We will watch Superman movies, bake Super-cookies and be in our Superman attire when the movie releases. I have a tattoo appointment set to show off and get into the excitement. Can't wait. It sure is a GREAT time to be a Superman fan. Damn proud of it!

I always find Superman fans annoying when they say they're character is under appreciated when he has two ongoings.

Anyway, 2013 will probably be a great year for Superman fans. Maybe the fanbase will finally grow up and let go of Reeves era nostalgia. Snyder's series will pribably the biggest comic of that month even though I'm not looking foward to it. Diggle will probably be solid. Supes will probably have a large role in Trinity War with him and Diana breaking up and he has a new film coming out. Sounds pretty solid. It does make me wonder how DC will try to increase Batman's publicity even more in 2014. Now that's an impossible feat.

    I agree!

Smallville got a season 11 comic(although I wish it was a season on TV with the Smallville cast) and it's one of the top selling digital comics.

Superman won the Death Battle in Screw Attack

Andy Diggle, Scott Lobdell, Grant Morrison, Geoff Johns, Scott Snyder and other great writers and artists on Superman.

Superman has an animated movie and a live action movie with a great cast and crew

And the year just basically started. I know people go on Superman(few heroes like Aquaman gets ragged on) but I really feel like this year is the year when people will really start to respect Superman more. #TeamSuperman ALL DAY!

Though I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or not, Ironman2978, and that's okay because things can seem pretty obnoxious in this thread. It's the time for Superman fans to come out and resonate how they feel and I, for one, feel the way I posted above.

Though I like characters like Iron Man, Batman and the X-men, I couldn't help but feel the jealousy of the Dark Knight trilogy and the sheer awesomeness that Downey JR brought to the Iron Man franchise. After Returns (and hiding the disappointment in for the longest of times) I was convinced that a Superman movie will never live up to its hype and I'd never get to embrace a Superman to boast about into a new generation.

Comics are the comics, I'll always support his runs no matter what, but the world wide appeal and norm is the big-screen, and recently, old and new, Superman has been a punching bag in that area (deservingly so.) It's time to champion the worlds greatest super-hero again and I believe we are finally getting that in Man of Steel. I just want to see my favorite character garner the respect he deserves. That's all this fan asks.

That won't be going away, it's already there in Johns's JL.

When you have a character theoretically powerful enough to take care of everything, he's going to be marginalized, just like Zatanna in JLD and Spectre in every event book.

But overall yeah it seems like a very good time to be a Superman fan, and it was pretty horrible only two years ago.

Why is that a bad thing? Am I suddenly inferior to people who are Superman fans first? When did I amply that Superman is a bad character due to my personal preference to Batman? Why do you care? Didn't I say Superman was going to have a big year? I like both Batman and Superman. You can do that. It's pretty easy.

    Love the thread.

If you were a poster on the old DC site, you know I have championed Clark for a long, long time. And man, this past decade......sh*t, its been hard. Barely anything good worth mentioning, and more than I would like to think about that was just terrible.

At this point, Im almost afraid to get my hopes up. Superman has been poorly used for so long, its hard to believe that it might turn around. Especially with the same people in management who have overseen these bad years.

I was happy enough to just have one title (Action) that was worth reading and for Clark's place as the world's first costumed hero to be reinstated. I was thankful for that small boon. But now? Man of Steel looks good. I know some fans here will hate it, because its not spandex red underwear Reeves, but screw 'em, I hope the box office is good. Not even Dark Knight or Avengers good, just solid, respectable sequel worthy good. And Snyder's new title should be good. He sells really well, and egotist interviews aside I enjoy his work.

Things are looking up, I just hope it isnt a false indication of things to come.

    Cautious optimism.

Come on, universe, let 2013 be the year things turn around.

Actually I'm dead serious and honestly didn't mean to come off as sarcastic or obnoxious(I honestly apologize if it did to you) and I agree with you all the way.

It's just a relief to see Superman come out on top right now and see Superman be successful in everything he's featured in right now. I know Superman can have his fair share of detractors(every good characters do) but right now is honestly a great time to be a Superman fan. I couldn't be happier.

I remember once Dan DiDio said 2010 would be Superman's year, and this was when New Krypton (with really subpar sales) was flushed down the toilet in that abysmal mini and JMS started Grounded.

Sweet! My apologies for not judging your post accurately. It's all good! Can't wait for all of this to blow up. I already have my checkbook aside for all the merchandise ready to explode, haha.

For reasons that have nothing to do with Superman, I despise that book. I can't think of a nuDC book that has more to work with (essentially the flagship book of the entire line; able to set precedent for every character in the DCU), that does less with it.

Makes Morrison and Waid's JLAs look even better in comparison.

Nice to see the optimism here but I have no confidence in Andy Diggle. He took one of Marvel's best books (Daredevil) and crapped all over it. Snyder should be fine

Indeed. The book is stronger now, but still really generic. Jonathan Hickman's Avengers on the other hand is everything I wish JL was.

He's better suited to sci-fi. I have more confidence in Diggle than I do Snyder, the latter to which I haven't enjoyed anything he's written since Black Mirror.
