Wow, thanks for referring to my lil' ol' hobby as a top blog :-)
The Claremont Larocca FF wasn't all that bad. Okay, well. It wasn't especially good either. It was like day old meatloaf. Familiar, but a little stale and dry and overall done to death.
Of course, Claremont had to hit the ground running, considering his run wasn't planned. At first Scott Lobdell and Alan Davis would write and draw FF, but they walked after three issues citing 'creative differences'. Thankfully there hasn't been any difference in Claremont's creative process for years now. So once he dealt with most of the dangling plot threads, FF became an X-book of sorts. With Excalibur villains the Technet dropping in, Roma the Omniversal Guardian having an interest in Franklin, Archangel's cop ex-girlfriend Charlotte Jones dropping by... and that was just in the first year! Year two brought Selene and the Hellfire Club, then the FF fought Ronan on the moon before embarking on a months long journey across space and time, with mind control and body morphing wherever they turned. And as for his third year on the job, he had a Celestial lock Reed inside Doom's armor and... Well, know what?
In lieu of Marvel putting out these issues in trade, why not check the write ups I did on them way back when. Yes, its long, overly wordy and pretty self explanatory when you look at the art. What do you want from me, I grew up on Claremont comics ;)
