I read most of the second arc today. A lot of it feels like promotional material for something else. To a certain extent it is, Johns issues the space to work on setting up JLA and Trinity War aspects. He also throws in lot of references to events that were happening in other titles plots and while it's meant to intrigue, it is kind of annoying. I don't know how much of this is just a growing pains thing, but I wouldn't be surprised if some people find i t off putting. It is emotionally disengaging.
At least in the old DCU we might not have had to wait until the final page of part 4 of 5 for the actual plot to start. Instead we've just had to faff around with nonsense like the surface world refusing to believe Atlantis exists and the Alanteans regaling in their ignorance of all things surface world, or the league being a bunch of children who are only now forced to invite others into their exclusive little club.
just reread issues 7-14 today and the bickering and infighting doesn't seem as bad when read in one sitting. Mostly it's just Green Lantern joking around and Batman trying to be serious about things. The one exception being obviously when Green Lantern and Wonder Woman came to blows. Looking back on the past 2 years of GL though that seems to be kind of a setup for the fact that he wasn't going to be a ringbearer anyways. We all know he's going to get it back but with the JLA having Simon on it maybe Johns just didn't want a GL on each team? I don't know, I may not know a lot about the history of the Justice League but the first few arcs weren't bad and I'm really liking Throne of Atlantis. Excited for tomorrow.
