The Americans Season 1

Did anyone else check out the first episode of the new FX series The Americans.

I watched it and I liked it well enough, though I did have a few issues. I hope to chat about the show here of course, but for now, you can check out my full thoughts on the pilot via my Pop-topia.com article link.

I liked it. I wonder if it won't seem later like there was a little too much character-development for the first episode.

Kerri Russel is the hottest Spy MILF ever. It makes up for her tiny role in MI III.

During the scene with them driving to "In the air tonight", I was looking for Tubbs loading a shotgun.

I really enjoyed this show so far. The music won me over right off the bat, and I loved how we meet these two characters in their element rather than meeting them as the "all american family" first then seeing the spy stuff later. From the commercials, I had no idea we'd be seeing anything from FBI point-of-view (or have a semi-likable main character working for the FBI), so that was a welcomed surprise especially when we find out he's the new neighbor. It's interesting to me that the husband spy (I'll learn names eventually) is starting to put family over duty. I don't think I've seen that actor before but I love what he did with the material.

The only issues I had were near the end, in the garage. I think they were being too careless as if neighbors, the kids, or anyone else couldn't hear all the commotion even if it was in the dead of night. Other than that, I was extremely surprised by how much I ended up liking this show.

I wondered if maybe they sound-proofed the garage, perhaps the whole house, for just such occasions.

I don't get the beginning of the second episode. That was Elizabeth (Keri Russel) that Jack was with, right?

It's kind of funny to see Soviets as scared of Reagan as I've ever seen an American character about the Soviets.

I'm a little disappointed that the opening credits aren't set to "Eminence Front", as some the ads implied might be the case.

I enjoyed the first episode but still need to watch the second. Surprised to see Russell give a BJ. Would Felicity have done the same thing?

I'll stick with it for a few episodes just because of the quality FX carries in shows like Justified and Sons.

I loved how Elizabeth was offended at the freedoms of the US because her daughter bought her own bra.

I will watch it if it has a decent ending. I don't want this show to get cancelled and i would be left with a bunch of questions.

By all indications so far, Elizabeth's life in Russia was pretty shitty. But while Phillip has basically warmed to the U.S. after 20 years, she's clinging to hatred. Maybe it's the only way to justify to herself what she's been through?
