I've always had a very strange reaction to books like this. On one hand I admire and appreciate the attempt to do something different and to approach a mainstream superhero title from an "art first" perspective, but at the same time I can't help but feel that when superhero titles move too far away from their action-adventure/pulp-fiction roots, that they lose some of their charm. This is particularly odd and troubling since I'm a regular reader of Saga, which I enjoy immensely. I can and do enjoy this sort of thing outside of the superhero genre, but have a very hard time accepting it inside said genre. Anyone else have this problem?

Another quirky thing from Hawkeye #4 & 5 that bothered me: S.H.I.E.L.D. has (supposedly) incriminating video evidence on VCR tapes? Seriously? In the 21st century?

Hell, I still own some 8-track tapes (but nothing working to play them with), and even I think a VCR tape would be "ancient technology" at this point! But if they wanted to limit accessiblity to people watching it, why not go even geekier / older and make it a Betamax tape?

Wasn't it all a lure to catch the person who was leaking information? I doubt that the real identities of the people involved would be revealed by a videotape.
Bobbi Morse: has been on three Avengers teams, worked for SHIELD, evaded the Skrulls for years, received the super soldier serum and Infinity Formula. Still not even a limited series.

Yeah, but I'm not talking about what was on the tape (which is why I had "supposedly" in parenthesis). I'm talking about the technology level itself. Why choose VCR tape there? How many people still have access to a working VCR these days, let alone in Madripoor luxury hotel suites? And would Kate even know what one is and how to operate it?

Dude, I'm 20. Trust me, Kate (given that she's between 18 and 21) would know how to play a videotape. She's young, not stupid. And I had a VCR until a few years ago; my mum still has one in the house somewhere.

I have friends in their mid-twenties who have an entire wall of videotapes.

We watch them and drink cheap whiskey pretty regularly.

And if the Kingpin wants a VCR, I'm sure one of his cronies will find him one.

I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!

If nihilism didn't take some delight in destruction one might suspect nihilists were an unnaturally morbid sort.

And I'm over twice your age (maybe older than your parents?), but a VCR is beyond old school.
