Default Marvel Now for a lapsed-Marvel reader

I've flipped between DC and Marvel for a while now, often reading certain titles from both publishers (as well as reading titles from many other publishers). My DC:Marvel ratio has been DC heavy in recent years but over the last few months I've been losing interest in many of what use to be my must-buys. I figured now is a good a time as any to through myself back in with Marvel and see if anything takes my fancy.

Essentially I'm looking for something very accessible, any suggestions?

Edit: I have absolutely no time for Spider-man so that should probably be ruled out straight away!

Hawkeye is extremely accessable and is arguably the best Marvel comic today. It is only 7 issues in and most have been stamd alone. You literally have to go out of your way to not like this book, check that out.

All New X-Men is my next recommendation. It is just extremely fun to read, and you don't really have to understand all the details of the.xuniverse to jump right in. Just be sure you start with #1.

    Daredevil is another great pick.

Its really hard to recommend anything beyond those books because you didnt say what kind of stuff you like. ANXM, Hawkeye, and Daredevil are appealing to all types of readers so its easy to recommend them.

Try Hickman's Fantastic Four run. It's not that old, and is a nice, long, epic story.
I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!

Scarlet Spider is really good and only launched a year or so ago.

Agree with Voss. Especially with Hawkeye and Daredevil. Great, continuity light, and $2.99 a piece.

Avengers Assemble has gotten really good since issue #9 when Kelly Sue DeConnick (your milage may vary on the first issues written by Bendis)

A lot of good humor, action and well written dialogue all while being continuity light.

If you want to pick up an avengers book i'd highly suggest that one.

FF is also pretty good. (not to be confused with fantastic Four)
Steve Rogers: You ready to follow Captain America into the jaws of death?
James Barnes: Hell, no! The little guy from Brooklyn who was too dumb not to run away from a fight. I'm following him."

If you're looking to add books to your pull-list:

I'd say that Thor: God of Thunder, Captain America, and Indestructible Hulk are 100% accessible to new readers with now back-reading or wiki-research needed whatsoever. They really, really stand on their own and have yet to even refer to prior runs. They are also three of the very best Marvel NOW books.

Outside of Marvel NOW, I'd say Hawkeye is a must-read for anyone interested in Marvel comics. It is also 100% standalone and again doesn't require any prior familiarity with the character.

Really, to differing degrees, all four books are aimed at sort of being a refresh on the characters. It's not at all a reboot, but all are meant to sort of give very different takes on the characters and their stories from what we've been getting for the last few years. As such, it really doesn't get any m ore accessible for the new reader. All four of them are also extremely solid books.

And that's for the best, honestly. This is a pretty terrible time for new readers or lapsed readers to try to get into Spider-Man. Don't let the new number 1 fool you: Superior Spider-Man is really the culmination of several years' worth of Slott's stories, which results in a pretty radical status quo that I can't help but imagine would be pretty off-putting to new or lapsed readers.

Agree with all of the above. In particular, I would recommend All New X-Men and Indestructible Hulk. Solid writing and art in both. If you want to dabble a bit, Fraction's FF is pretty good so far, and Allred's art really seals the deal there.

Avengers Assemble, starting with 9, is great.

Hawkeye has just released 7 (I think), definitely worth reading.

Red She-Hulk and Thor God of Thunder, both real stand outs, much to my surprise. I wasn't expecting them to be great, but I love them both.

Indestructible Hulk is probably one of the most interesting Hulk books I've read recently.

Secret Avengers starts on the 13th, and it looks like it's going to be good. Fearless Defenders looks great, based on the preview pages, and it comes out on Wednesday.

I really do like All-New X-Men and FF as well, I just didn't mention them because they aren't quite as new reader friendly as Hulk, Thor, Cap, or Hawkeye. All-New X-Men really does require a knowledge of the concluding events of Avengers vs. X-Men and new readers of FF might be a bit befuddled at first if they aren't at least peripherally aware of Hickman's run, given that he created the Future Foundation and introduced many of the book's supporting characters.

Thought some might be interested in a quick update, I've only managed to read one of the suggestions so far - I decided to get my interest going so re-read Morrison's New X-Men run. As I trade wait I decided to check out Hawkeye... Damn! That's a hell of a comic. My exposure to Hawkeye previously was fairly limited so I was able to approach it with few pre-conceived ideas. I've got All-New Xmen (figure I'll try and fill in the gaps where I need to with a quick wiki search) and Thor on order, I'm toying with Daredevil (though to be honest there's so many trades I'm trying to figure out where to start).

A question: I'm big in to Omnibus collections and spotted Secret Warriors in my LCS - would this be a mad purchase for someone who has been out of touch the the Marvel Universe for a while? It sounds great.

    Yes, Hawkeye is fantastic.

Secret Warriors is probably some of Hickman's best work (and it's a great lead-in for the new Secret Avengers book), so I highly recommend it.

Daredevil had a jumping on point at #23, which wasn't that long ago, so maybe that would be a good place to start?
Bobbi Morse: has been on three Avengers teams, worked for SHIELD, evaded the Skrulls for years, received the super soldier serum and Infinity Formula. Still not even a limited series.

Seeing as I buy trade I'll probably pick up at the beginning of Waid's run, especially as there was a recent reprint of the first volume of his run. Thanks for the info on Secret Warriors, I really like Hickman so if with praise like that I think I'll be picking that up when I get a chance. Think I might check out Captain Marvel too seeing as I'm dropping a lot of my DC purchases at the moment.

You've mentioned that you've read some Marvels before. I would recommend ALL-NEW X-MEN, specially, make that only, if you're familiar with the original team from the sixties. If you have read at least some of those old Lee/Thomas/Kirby/Wroth/Adams issues the enjoyment factor really ratchets up.
