"We must fight on!"
"We'll die. We fight and we die, that's how it goes."
"Then we die gloriously!"

If you ask me, grimdark is a way-overused phrase in comic book circles. As one poster mentioned, it comes from the tagline from Warhammer 40K tagline "In the grim, dark future there is only war...". The future presented in 40K is EXCEPTIONALLY dark and there are very few comics that can really compare tonally (not that I think there needs to be more)to how dark that future is.
Ongoings I'm picking up: MANHATTAN PROJECTS, BEDLAM, FATALE, SAGA, THE WALKING DEAD, B.P.R.D. , CREEPY, EERIE, CONAN, DHP, HELLBOY, THE MASSIVE, MIND MGMT, STAR WARS, SAVAGE SWORD
Oh, so it came from OUTSIDE comics. That explains a lot. Thanks.

"Grimdark" is a perjorative term, like "soap opera":.
If I like something then by definition it can't be 'grimdark".
Wherever it came from, it's still a fucking stupid phrase.

So, does anyone have any good suggestions for some Joybright comics?

We struggled against apartheid in South Africa, supported by people the world over, because black people were being blamed and made to suffer for something we could do nothing about; our very skins. It is the same with sexual orientation. It is a given.

Since when is "soap opera" a pejorative? I mean, it can be, but only in context. Soap operas were quite popular for decades. Or do you mean only in the context of comics, and even then it's iffy?Iangould might be speaking 'stra'in:

"There's not much of a difference between a stadium full of cheering fans and an angry crowd screaming abuse at you. They're both just making a lot of noise. How you take it is up to you. Convince yourself they're cheering for you. You do that, and some day, they will. And that's how Sue Cs it."- Sue Sylvester, "Glee"
Yotsuba&! Its tagline is even "Enjoy everything."
But then, I'd recommend that regardless of the topic.
Also, if we can include webcomics, I'd say Cucumber Quest qualifies. Also Bad Machinery, Paranatural, and Nedroid.
I just turned this into an excuse to hype my favorite webcomics, didn't I?
Chillingly good stuff besides Mignola, Slint, M, Knut and really big chunks of tinfoil?Been called a 'good egg'. Been told to rock, been told to steady myself. Been told to (please) be goin' places.

I'm not entirely sure I understand what constitutes "grimdark," but Todd Solondz' Happiness makes me laugh uncontrollably when I watch it: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0147612/?ref_=sr_2
