I don't think anyone could have done any better with the time given....short of Watchmen being a 6 hour animated miniseries, you weren't going to get what you wanted

I had no issues with it, but that's because I like the book, but I don't hold it up as a holy tome anymore....did when I was younger, was very jihad about anyone that dared criticize it

The biggest sin was letting anyone do a movie that so many good directors called "unfilmable". We had to "trust him, he was one of us" and then he did just what I figured...delivered the most superficial aspect of the book, because that's all that's filmable. Nothing that made the book great made it to the screen, because that was impossible.

Yeah, seeing the movie just made me want to read the book again, to get the whole story.
