I'd be interested in MK comic, but apparently WB isn't.
I don't play fighting games anymore (but MKII is my fav fighter of all time), so at this point I'd be more interested in the "story," than anything else.
DC: Batman Inc - Batman & Robin - Batman - Justice League - Justice League of America - A̶c̶t̶i̶o̶n̶ ̶C̶o̶m̶i̶c̶s̶
Batman fights death, and Superman fights the impossible - Grant Morrison

Not really, its always had an exceptionally strong storyline for a fighting game series. Thats also been a standout.
Given how well the Injustice web-first comic is selling, I wouldn't be surprised to see one for the next Mortal Kombat game.
Well despite d awesome finishing moves, d story is wat gets us hukd but we dont mind nu xcters just as long as dey dont tk 2 much away from establishd MK xcters.
And of course d nu xcters will b gr8 2 sho-off may of d awesome brutality & fatality moves of different MK xcters.
But with a very successful webseries, a 2nd webseries coming later dis yr AND a movie also on d way....it mks gd sense 4 DC 2 start publishing a comic.
Unfortunately, they were piss poor.
Game wise, that's one thing. Comic wise, that's a different matter. It was worse because John Tobias did a couple of comic one-shots setting up each game and the characters were consistent with their game counterparts, compared to the Malibu series......
Ho come on, let's not pretend we follow MK for the story.![]()
The ongoing Street Fighter comic from Udon was a bit fun, and they're actually continuing that with a Super Street Fighter graphic novel sometime soon apparently.
Anyways, as for trying a Mortal Kombat comic, I say why not, seems every property gets licensed and tried for a spin pretty much.
As for would it be good? Personally, I'm not sure. One problem is they have to be reverential, and with so many fan favorite characters and all their rivalries set it stone it feels like the comic would have no surprises. Just each issue ending with a splash page of another fighter showing up, dun duuuun, maybe after 40 issues they'll have featured them all and some of them will have killed eachother. And maybe they'll have even saved the world through the fighting. Ultimately, would probably just be an exercise in fan service.
I can't see a Mortal Kombat comic laughing at itself enough, it'd probably be going for "cool" which would fall flat on it's face in my opinion, I think going a bit "camp" and having humor would actually save it.
Anyways, why not. Though I'd rather see a Fatal Fury or King of Fighters comic myself.

DROKK IT!!
Yeahhhh.....how many times did Johnny Cage die again? Two? Three?
I mean let's face it, the first two are basically a tournament, the 3rd one is a basic invasion plot , same for the 4th. Things started to get more surprising with Deadly Alliance (Liu Kang and Shao Khan getting killed? Whoa), and Deception had a decent storyline (and story mode), but Armageddon is just a big Battle Royale thing, and the whole story mode thing suffered from an uninteresting protagonist and antagonist, and stakes that felt somewhat disconnected to the rest of the saga. And there's lots of examples of characters reappearing mysteriously (I'm not sure how Johnny Cage came back to life in 4, considering the end of Mythology sort of implied his "back from the dead" thing was temporary), especially in Armaggedon (pretty sure Jarek was dead last time we saw him), and stuff that are arbitrary (like the Elder Gods screwing up Scorpion between Deception and Armageddon but resurrecting his family as promised..... but as zombies. Why? No idea).
9 had a pretty cool storyline though.

Well, the biggest problem they would have is that the main stories are going to happen in the games. So, they could go with some sort of a backstory for everyone (the rivalry between Scorpion and Sub Zero, how Shang Tzung became a bad guy.....), which by definition is limited, or write "filler" stories that probably wouldn't be that interesting. Still, I guess some mini series before the games come out, like they did with Injustice, could work if done well (since the following one is probably going to have Shinnok as the bad guy, I guess they could talk about the war with Raiden in the long past, and perhaps retell MK Mythology Sub Zero).

I know the thread starter wants Mortal Combat but since we are on fighting games, Soul Calibur has a ready made "story" that could make a decent comic. The characters are from all over the world all seeking either to gain or destroy the dark sword. Pretty standard stuff, but it could be made into some interesting events and quests. Plus, it has a huge roster of females that are comics read, i.e. skimpy clothes, huge chests, goofy personalities, character backstories... huge chests. DC could do worse.
Current Favorites: The Goon, Batgirl, Chew, The Sixth Gun, Saga, Billy the Kids Old Time Oddities, Fatale, Batwoman, Vibe, Storm Dogs, Earth 2, Witchblade, Justice League of America, Slumptown
Mythologies is prior of MK1, maybe you talked about Trilogy?

And the "death" of Jarek in MK4:

But yes, Armageddon was a bad plot and the storyline suffers a lot because someone wanted "all MK characters in one fk game". I hope that MK10 will recieve a MK9/MKDA (or at least MKD) treatment.
Yeah, but since it's Japanese, it's more likely to get a manga (and I think it already has) than a comic.
While MK is an american franchise from a company owned by Warner Brothers. If they ever got interested in making fighting games's comics, they're more likely to go with this.

I would kill for a Soul Calibur comic. Most of the characters have unique visual designs, backstories, weapons, etc. and the quest for Soul Edge could be turned into a really compelling saga. also, Yoshimitsu in comic form. PReferably drawn by Paquette or Reis with his backstory being drawn by Francavilla
