I've only just started collecting the comic books so I'm a little uneducated on the whole thing. I started with Minimum Carnage, then got Ends of the Earth and then Trouble on the Horizon, the guy at the shop said unless they actually have Volume and whatever number on the side of them, they're not linked and you can read them in any order, is that right or is there any particular order I should be reading them in?

Many of the collections reprint stories from a particular creative run, so there is actually an order to it. That said, the writers do pride themselves on making sure that stories are accessible to newer readers.

The order for the Big Time era is....

The Big Time (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #648-651)
Matters of Life and Death (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #652-657)
    The Fantastic Spider-Man (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #658-662)
Note: The Big Time Ultimate Collection Volume 1 includes the above three.

    The Return of Anti-Venom (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #663-665 and a one-shot)
Spider Island (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #666-673)
Spider Island Companion: Reprints related projects.
Flying Blind (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #674-677)
Trouble on the Horizon (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #678-681)
Ends of the Earth (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #682-687)
Lizard: No Turning Back (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #688-691)
Danger Zone (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #692-697)
Dying Wish (Reprints Amazing Spider-Man #698-700)

That's probably the best way to go about it.

I'm collecting too and I'm about to buy a Superior Spider-Man #1 First Print to start off by SSM collection. If anybody really thinks that's a bad idea they have 23 minutes to stop me haha
