Who is Hyperion?

Eh, that's nothing new, when you consider Miracleman, Apollo, Mister Majestic, and hell, previous versions of Hyperion himself.

Seems like if he's not the Gruenwald Squadron Supreme Hyperion, he's a pretty close copy.

So after reading Avengers #4, it appears this is the Hyperion from the Gruenwald mini, Englehart Serpent Crown story and some other Avengers/Thor/Defenders appearances. Kinda sad that the Squadron Supreme is gone.

I like having Hyperion on board, but I don't get the change in his outfit. The drab grey really doesn't do anything for me -- and I think the atomic symbol looked better on his chest. Thank goodness, Hasbro didn't follow this redesign for the Marvel Legends Hyperion (one of my favorite ML figures).

The author has already stated that it's a different Hyperion.

Thought that one's earth was at least somewhat similar to Gruenwalds.

1) Squadron Sinister Hyperion - Created out of inorganic matter by the Grandmaster, fought the Avengers and Defenders, briefly replaced Squadron Supreme Hyperion, then killed by him.
2) Squadron Supreme Hyperion - Leader of the Squadron Supreme on Earth 712 (or Earth S). Has interacted with the 616 many times, trapped in 616 for a time.
3) Supreme Power Hyperion - the closest Superman clone, but told in a much more realistic and modern setting. I don't really know how his story continued as I only read the first two trades.
4) King Hyperion - Joined the Exiles, decided that he wanted to rule the reality they were sent to instead of saving it. Killed a few other members of the Exiles/Weapon X until he was defeated by the Squadron Supreme Hyperion and different, blind Hyperion. Eventually made his way to 616.
5) Blind Hyperion - Assisted the Exiles in the defeat of King Hyperion
6) Microverse Hyperion - Also created by the Grandmaster for a new Squadron Sinister in the 616 universe. Fought Thunderbolts, still at large.
7) Zombie Hyperion - Created from a clone of the Squadron Supreme Hyperion at Project Pegasus. Killed Kansas's Initiative team, died of Mad Cow disease.
8) Avengers Hyperion - Only survivor of a dying universe, joined Avengers.

The Squadron Supreme he was a member of and the entire universe he was a part of, were destroyed.
