This is cool and all, but is there any reason why Hickman can write at least two-three issues a month and Weaver has done so many covers PLUS at least one single issue of Uncanny X-Men, but SHIELD has been sitting unfinished for years?
Scripts for the last SHIELD issues have apparently been done for a while, with one issue drawn. Awaiting the other issue to be drawn.
I'm sure whoever writes the check tells artists to focus on the top-selling books at the expense of more niche work, if there's a conflict.
But a delay THIS long does seem fishy.
You'd think Weaver could've finished by now even if he were just penciling it absent-mindedly during bathroom breaks.
Pretty sure it's Marvel Editorial that's keeping it from being completed. In August, he had 17 pages done and the last three laid out. He's been saying all this Avengers work is keeping him pretty occupied. I'm thinking Hickman's probably already finished writing the last issue as well.
Maybe higher-ups want to release the trade concurrently with the SHIELD teevee show for some dumb reason, even though it probably won't have much of anything in common with Hickman/Weaver SHIELD other than the name.
Yeah, that's my point; I had the same problem with how long it took for Planetary #27 to be released. I mean, I totally get that, as you rightly pointed out, that the people cutting the checks dictate what takes precedence, but at the same time, it's kind of a slap to the fans who DID invest in the book to wait a year or years (at least it's not the 3 year wait yet between Planetary #26 and #27) for a conclusion when the creators are going tons of other stuff in the meanwhile. I LOVE Weaver's work, and I have no doubt it takes time to perfect, and certainly there are way worse things in this world to worry about, but it kind of irks me nonetheless.
Either way, I've been trying to get the question answered in one of those Axel or Joe columns for months now to no avail...

Well Hickman is Marvel's Ellis, but minus the dark humor and pessimism.
I just hope that Hickman remembers that the Starbrand has already been in the 616, and the New Universe Earth is actually orbiting around the Strangers world. Quasar has extensive first hand knowledge of the Starbrand, having been empowered by it before.
Very cool! Hickman loves circles, so it was only a matter of time before he re-introduced the Star Brand!
I think with Hyperion, Thor, Hulk, Capt. Universe and the rest, this is definitely the most powerful super-team ever assembled.
But why in the hell does Hulk need armor? That would be as redundant and silly as Superman wearing arm...never mind.
