Default Fawkes Makes Magic with "Constantine"

Ray Fawkes discusses his and Jeff Lemire's approach to "Constantine" and how the solo series will present the one time Vertigo mainstay in a different light than his "Justice League Dark" appearances.

I may give the first issue a look, but this book will have a hard fought battle ahead.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

Well, he's saying all the right things. His concept of the possibilities of magic sound good, and already his entrance into Justice League Dark improved the book immediately, in terms of the precision and gravitas of the script. Mnevmore showed some propensity for big apocalyptic dialogue/monologue that worked VERY well, so I have a lot of hope here. It's clear that Lemire only spends a day or two on a script, his dialogue not even making an effort to be clever. That his more his thing, very relatable characters with very simple dialogue. Fawkes seems to be doing something else, and something more appropriate.

Very, very chuffed that they've put him on two fairly significant books in DC already. Fawkes, Kindt, Venditti, Soule, Fialkov? That's a pretty strong up and comer group, with proven track records. Not to mention bigger gambles like Tynion. Let's hope for more of that.

Kinda curious to see if there's an actual reason for John not being in London.

He does say there is a very specific reason why he's not in London, and it should be touched on in the first issue.

Wonder what the big reveal is. I'm guessing it's something to do with the Trinity War, just based on the DCU-changing reveal they say it will be.

Read that. I wonder what the specific reason is that ACTUALLY prevents London to be his place cause with changes like these, they could very well told them like they before.

Constantine = Hellblazer for the kids.
Not even a "Parental Advisory". Nothing.
    Bollocks.

And John Constantine is London, not Manhattan. He is not a colonialist. He is a pure f-word beef bred!!!!

So, in only two (2) words : f-word DC.
    2000 AD of course!!!

I'm interested in the new52 versions of Sargon the Sorcerer, Mister E and Dr. Occult. Glad Nick Necro didn't kill him. Wonder if they even address that scene. Who's gonna own the House of Secrets?

I strongly agree with this. I would also like to see Mike Costa get another shot as I thought Blackhawks was a lot better than most gave it credit for.

I have really disliked Constantine in the New 52, he's like "magic Wolverine" where he is popping up in every book and I'm sick of him and his personality, which is starting to feel more lame than cool. But I give virtually every new DC book a chance with its first issue, so I will give this its due chance.

Whoa dude, you know he's a fictional character right?

Also, let's hope they redesign Mister E. He still has one of the best character designs.

    Only on the internet.

Hellblazer sold 9 thousand copies last month. JLD sold 27 thousand.

This is definitely going to be a case of a vocal minority who, in the bubble of internet message boards, sound much more numerous than they really are.

Either that, or it'll just be a bunch of people who aren't even reading Hellblazer who'll bitch for the sake of bitching.

Hellblazer is a hard-R rated Vertigo horror book, how much where you expecting it would sell?

This Constantine book will be bland, charmless and tame.

    Oh comic fans, never change.

I'm really excited about this new series and Fawkes getting more work.
Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.
