I want this book to succeed, but I really don't like that art.

I adore this page. I don't care that its wordless, I just simply adore it.

    My heart. It bursts.

That page is very cute, I must say. But otherwise, not feeling the art.

    You said burst.

I kind of feel this way.

I really like the way Andrade does scenery.
But have mixed feelings on how he does the characters.

I like stylized, cartoonish art in general, but the particular type of "round, wet blob with slashes in it" style that he used for people's heads in some panels last issue frankly makes me queasy. He also switches of the characterization, in that Soy's Carol had sharper, harder-set features, while Andrade's Carol comes off cute and delicate as an inevitable result of his style.
I like a Carol who looks more like a hardass.

I do think the rendering looks tighter and more consistent in this issue, however, accounting for the four-page sample size.

This preview might have just sold me on the new direction.

Also hot damn but that is a nice cover.

    Is that still McKelvie?

edit: nevermind, I see Quinones listed now.

Also funny how Carol's hair is long again.

I still find the art strangely fun and endearing, the page with Carol and mini Carol is a perfect example, but really wish his anatomy would get more symmetrical and less weirdly bent. Overall, the preview looks good.

Wasn't a gripe, just more pointing it out.

Still, I really want this book to do well, but I think the artist here really is just too off. Everyone's eyes are too far apart for one.

The art is an aquired taste I think. I don't hate it but the sash comes off looking like a diaper in some panels. I wasn't crazy about how dark everything was with Soy but I feel his character work was better. I am guessing they needed to lower the cost of the creators in order to make this book fly at its current sales level. I think that's was what doomed Spider-woman. Bendis and Maleev were just too expensive to make that book economically feasable. As long as Kelly Sue stays on, I'll be along for the ride.

That's just his style. If everyone drew perfect anatomy and in a safe style then all comic art would look the same...

I'm pretty sure Soy just isn't the fastest artist, hence Rios had to come in on issue 5 and do 2 issues. There really aren't that many artists out there anymore that can do more than 10 issues a year on time these days. Only Bagley, Immonen, and Larrocca come to mind.

Oh, I agree on that. Which is why I love Bachelo's art.

But this art just doesn't click with me. I like the fairy nature of it, but it just the faces just seem like masks.
