Old Johnny Quest is not "hardcore" at all...it got a cute little dog that's one step away from talking.

Prime time or not, is there really any western animation to watch, besides sitcommy stuff? YJ and GLTAS are gone now, leaving just Korra (which I didn't think was very good at all).

I thought that's for kids". From what I get is manga is highly respected artform but anime really isn't respected as much except for the works of Miyazaki, Satoshi kon, and the like.

Also the edgy anime tends to be shown late at night, like adult swim.

I'm not sure what you got from my statement but that was kind of my point. A lot of shows that would be considered adult or too edgy over here are aired for kiddies over in Japan. Case Closed was probably a good example. They had to air it on Adult Swim over in America but in its native Japan it's considered a kid's show.
