Both characters have changed looks numerous times in the past in the comics so fans are used to the idea. But whenever DC markets the Superman Family characters to the general public they still fall back on imagery the general public knows:

That art is by Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez using pre-CoIE designs, standard Silver-Age for the main art and Bronze-Age headband version on the car.

And Supergirl Halloween costumes for little girls are still based on the pre-CoIE designs too:

I have been reading Superman titles since 1979 and was a hard core every issue reader from the Byrne Reboot all the way up thru the triangle era until the Electric Superman ended my obsession with the comics.
If you guys think THIS new era is bad I beg of you PLEASE go back and read Electric Superman and some of the Post-Death/Return issues with Superman sporting a Mullet and then come back complaining about what we have now.
Go hang out around 1995-1996. Go look at Jon Bognove's drawing in Man of Steel from that era and then come back complaining.
We are living in an exciting new era in which ACTION has returned to Action Comics and the storylines are pure fantasy and adventure rather than a bunch of foil covered hogwash so I wish more people would appreciate it. I love the New 52 version and am glad to be a regular reader again.
Sorry, I have been reading Superman off and on since 1971, and those things you say you don't like.....I enjoyed a great deal. In fact I wish Simonson and Bogdonave were collaborating on a Superman book right now. The Electric blue Superman was an nice nod to the Superman Red/Blue story from the Silver Age.

As far as now is concerned.....well, its better than "Grounded".
I have liked H'el on Earth so far to be honest.
If the shoe fits: "a crankly old man standing just on the edge of a crowd gathered for a concert and stamping his feet yelling at the crowd to stop having fun, that they don't know what fun is."
