Perhaps it could be said that there's nothing wrong with a character trying to use some humor to break up the tension of a serious situation, but I don't want to read super-hero comics where the situation itself is comedic, i.e. Mr. Nebula and the Scarlet Skier.
Which makes me wonder... do the people who replied "no" hate comedy?

This is why polling is quite a discipline.

I think that there's nothing wrong with, a book about a darkgrim Spawn type of piece f garbage... as long as it's not the entire line. That's diversity of genre.

Now, I don't like derailment of genre, however, with JLI was justified from the point of view of the writers. Without Wondie and Supes, and Captain Marvel only there for a while, they were basically facing another Detroit in their hands so they bet for humor, which turned out to be a massive success story. And it was only logic, what were they expecting with Blue Beetle and Guy on that team? The same basic characters didn't worked out so well when they tried to make it serious again. G/DM were right, without the big guns, comedy was the right choice. However, ideally, Detroit should have never happened.

Btw, I like Bendis sense of humor as well.

    You nailed it.

The thing about the Giordano era is that they were taking risks and encouraging creativity. This is the least creative era of DC, TPTB are way too tight for a creative field.
