I agree when those symbols are on their own, and think they can be used well in that context, kinda like Muttley's "rassum frassum...". What annoys me is when those symbols are clearly used to replace actual swear words eg. "What the #%@! do you think your doin' with that *$^#ing thing you $#!?head?" The actual words may as well be used considering the intent is so obvious. It really makes me think the writers that use that technique shouldn't be writing all ages stuff. I mean that previous sentence could easily be changed to something like "What ARE you doing with that thing you moron?". No loss of clarity or intent but seems far more honest.

I'm a big fan of Alan Moore and opposed to censorship, but I can totally understand the parent of a teenage girl freaking out over Neonomicon. There is a graphic rape scene that goes on and on and on. I'm not opposed to rape being dealt with in fiction, but when a rape scene takes up half an issue and then there is more rape in the following issue, that really crosses over into gratuitous territory. There were a couple of interesting ideas in Neonomicon and one brilliant panel, but the rape was too much. I don't think that Neonomicon should be banned, but I also don't think that it should be read by anybody except adults.

Neither did the library in question, which was why it was shelved in the adult section of the library. But that's not good enough for this parent. Because she couldn't be bothered making sure a book she allowed her daughter to check out of the adult section was appropriate for a 14-year-old girl (Oh, it's a comic book! Everybody knows those are for kids! Go ahead, honey), she's now decided that nobody should be allowed to read it.

And, having read your description of the book, I can safely say I wouldn't be letting the boy read that one just yet.

Why should it be banned (or anything else for that matter)?

As Freud once said, sometimes a giant killer sandworm is just a giant killer sandworm.

Aaaah, c'mon -- what's a giant spiked penis or two between friends?
I tend to split superhero comics fans into "People who like Krypto" and "People who don't like Krypto."
Basically, if you miss the wonder of a dog flying around in a little Superman cape, you're in the wrong hobby.

Can someone Post some quality shots of the page in Elektra Vol 2 #3, the Reprint and recalled. I looked on a link http://www.recalledcomics.com/Elektra3Recalled.php but both images are to small and dark to see the difference. You can PM them to me if you prefer it that way. thanks. Just trying to see the difference so I know what to look for incase I ever run into the issue.
