Ororo Munroe: I have no powers, my body cannot fly. But I no longer mind, for in my heart and soul -- where it truly matters -- I soar higher than the stars!
Loved the use of Storm and Psylocke in this issue. Even Puck and Spiral were used nicely. My one complaint still is why would Psylocke care about getting kicked out of the school when she wanted nothing to do with it in the first place. This is why she chose Cyclops side in Schism/Regenesis. She felt like a school was like going backward for her. Going back to what she said there. "A school? No, not for me." A little while later "We have to go forward. The school's the opposite of that." I just don't see how she does that turnaround. It'd have been better for her to refuse joining the school rather than being kicked out or whatever. Ironically Wolverine has taken Cyclops's role of being unofficially involved with the team to keep his name out of it. Nice surprise ending there.
Betsy's anger and bitterness are hopefully transitory, and once she comes down from the worst of it she's going to be awesome. Right now she just seems like a more extreme version of herself.
Aggro-Betsy is a nice change from the weeping butterfly of Remender's run.
Storm is awesome, though could stand to be a little more HBIC.
Don't care about the Fantomex twins/lovers yet.
Also hoping Puck doesn't stay as bossy as he was this issue. Spiral needs more lines and more crazy. And I'm hoping for explanation why Bishop has his youth, hair, eye, and arm back.
Agreed mostly on the review.
Things I like:
- The Art is gorgeous!
- Betsy and Storm's friendship.
- Spiral's a Dance DIVA!
- Puck's such a fun to read.
- Betsy's steampunk Car.
- Bety's Katana has a name - Shurayuki!
- Bishop's back!!
Things needed to be explored:
- Things that happened in the last 6 months
- Betsy's rude attitude. Though I wish they use @#*%# instead of blackened words.
- Fantomex and Cluster's kissing
- Where's Jean Philip? (The evil clone)
The first time I saw the cast I wanted book to be named X-Treme X-men. Especially knowing that this team will not (necessarily) be a killing squad.
But considering the name has been taken by Dazzler & Co (which is sadly going to be cancelled) and how much previous story from Vol.1 will be used, I think Uncanny X-Force suited just fine.
Betsy is all about moving forward. Before AvX she shared the same vision as Cyclops' that mutants needed to stay together and prepare themselves for the worst (instead of Wolverine's school) and that includes Betsy training the young kids in Utopia.
But things have changed after new mutants are beginning to appeared everywhere. Again, Betsy is all about moving forward. Having a school for the emerging amount of mutants seems like the right thing to do at the moment. Noted that now Cyclops also share the same view with the newly found Xavier school.
Apparently things didn't seem to be as easy for Betsy, especially considering all the things she's been through with X-Force and what happened in the 6 months gap (presumably regarding the Fantomexes triplets).

Almost every comic CBR reviews that has any kind of high profile seems to get 4 stars. It is so predictable and becoming something of a joke. It used to give out more honest reviews. What is the deal is Marvel/DC paying for the reviews now?
Pull List
Avengers - New Avengers
Uncanny X-Men - All-New X-Men
Fantastic Four - Uncanny Avengers
Indestructible Hulk - Guardians of the Galaxy
Superior Spider-Man - Nova
Makes sense in light of what you said. I just wonder when her mindset changed regarding the school. Maybe it didn't and that's why it didn't work out for her there. Given that Brian Wood said the school is basically the meeting place for that team I wonder just how done is Psylocke with the school? Did she move out? I'd kinda like to see her living in LA (where UXF is based) and traveling with Storm back and forth between the school and there. The new mutants certainly makes the landscape different as now Cyclops is doing his own school as well. Seems like things are far less black and white for both sides now as each realized the other was right in some ways (Cyclops in regards to the school and Wolverine as far as training the mutants for danger in the Savage Land).
Maybe it's just the reviewer's honest opinion? As a critic myself (movies) I know you rely on the companies for money but that doesn't mean you can't be honest in reviews. You definately don't go out of your way to bash the companies needlessly, but an honest review doesn't hurt and the companies usually want honest reviews so they can improve what they do. I agreed with the review. The comic was a 4 star. Maybe 4.5 but definately not below 4. What did you think it should have been? I loved the art, I loved the setup. It left me wanting more. Uncanny X-Force #1 did it's job. It made me want to come back and find out what happens next. Screw it, it was 5 stars and I have no personal interest here. Marvel isn't giving me a thing. Damn you Marvel! lol
Incredibly meh. Humphies seems pretty out of touch with Psylocke. This is noticeably apparent after Remender's fine handling of the character. Her British upbringing wouldn't find dance culture strange, she wouldn't really act so defensive about lewd thoughts since she's a seasoned telepath. I don't mind swearing, but the constant vulgarities also felt like the writer was trying way too hard. In fact everything about this book is trying too hard, but that's Marvel NOW for ya.
During the preceding 2 volumes, X-Force used to be the cool book.
It's very difficult to succeed Remender. It's not bad, but I'm not convinced. And the art is not as amazing as Opena's.

I agree with this review. Humphries may not have Rick Remender's knack for theatrics, but he does successfully use the elements he established to set up this series. After the end of Remender's run, it makes perfect sense to have Psylocke be the protagonist. She was by far one of the most affected characters from the events of Uncanny X-Force. And bringing Storm and Puck into the mix has really given this issue a unique flavor. Yet it still feels like an Uncanny X-Force book. For that, I think it's safe to conclude that this book is awesome.![]()

I'm very pleased that this iteration of UXF is quite a different flavor than what came before. Humphries is trying some new takes, and I found it pretty refreshing.

Mindboggling: the logic that leads to both this book and Chew being awarded 4 stars at CBR. Huh?????
This was a pretty-to-look-at, yet lousy, disjointed mess of a first issue. Particularly following the inevitable comparison with the last version of this book.
Masked Man Issue 1 Reviews
Pulling: Batman, Batwoman, The Cape, Daredevil, Fatale, Luther Strode, The Strain
ACTUALLY as much as i hate it, Betsys Judging and threatening puck over his own personal thoughts kinda makes a little sense.
She still lacks the ability to feel regret/sorro and such right??? she no longer has the emotions nessacary to notice how wrong her actions are, all she feels is anger and reacts accordingly, hope they reverse this soon
