Default JJ Abrams set to direct Star Wars Episode VII

Although the director had previously turned down the offer, The Wrap have just announced that the current Star Trek director has officially been hired by Disney to direct Star Wars: Episode VII.

Naturally, Paramount are a little peeved off to say the least, as this would mean Abrams will need to jump right into the production process sooner rather than later.

I knew I felt a disturbance in the force. Fandoms heads must be exploding from the news already. It's like thousands of fanboys screaming out in unison... "NOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!".

    This could be interesting.

I'm not a Star Wars fanboy (I could care less if they bring everyone back from the dead, for example), but I don't like J.J. Abrams' work. I'm gonna try to avoid this one (emphasis on try).

I don't understand the angst here. Abrams first Star Trek movie was awesome, the trailer for the second promises another great film, so what's the problem? Are people forgetting it was the success of Star Wars that ultimately made the Star Trek movie franchise possible? Of course if it wasn't for Star Trek to begin with we probably never would have had Star Wars. If you love good science fiction/fantasy/adventure movies be grateful for anything that looks promising.

Good decision; now let's hope the script/screenplay gives JJ something great to work with.

I hear you on most points but making the best mission impossible movie is no great feat. I've flushed more entertaining things down the toilet each day than mission impossible 1and 2.

And who would have ever thought that the same guy who directs Star Trek would also direct Star Wars? Weird.

Nah, DePalma's original Mission: Impossible had better action directing. So did Woo's sequel for that matter.

Forget the lens flare jokes, I think the only REAL question now is: Will Luke, Leia and Han be traveling to the past, or will young Luke, Leia, Han or maybe Vader be traveling to the future?

(Oh come on, show me a scifi project where Abrams has been able to stay away from time travel.)
My favorite character can beat up your favorite character.

It isn't so weird when his Star Trek movie felt like a love letter to Star Wars.

Woo's Mission: Impossible felt like a mess, althought DePalma's is still the best one.
