I respect your opinion; more power to you, but I seriously cannot comprehend how anybody who loves superhero comics would want Superman to be dressed in something you could put on. Superheroes drawn in the comic books need to look like superheroes, not people trying to dress like them. It's just part of the magic to me. Just my two cents.
    I seriously miss Captain Mar-Vell.

He won't be wearing the nu52 suit in 10 years. He won't be back in the classic either, but that suit will not last. It just sucks too bad to last.

And yea, I liked Grant's Action Comics. I like Superman's current status quo better than the old one. Mostly I just think the costume sucks ass.

What is it about the current suit that makes you think it sucks ass? I mean, I don't care too much for all the lines, but to me it definitely isn't suck ass material.

The neck and collar attachment with the Mandarin collar. The silly lines all over it. The go-go dancer belt and the never ending field of blue. And finally, the boots borrowed from Iron Man. Every aspect of the Lee costume stinks, like most of his costumes. It's pathetic next to the classic, and it's also not the best redesign they could have done. It would be a bad costume even if it wasn't Superman's costume.

There are people around who could potentially design a new Superman costume that would be acceptable and maybe even great, but Jim Lee is not one of them. Too bad they didn't decide to try this when Dave Cockrum was still alive, every costume he ever designed was awesome. I personally think Alex Ross should have gotten to do the redesign. Actually, I don't think they needed to redesign, but since they wanted to, I think Ross would have done the best job of designing something new that still felt like Superman. The new costume could be any character if it didn't have the symbol.

I don't agree that strongly with you. I think that just the fact that he is still recognizable as Superman, means that it isn't a suck ass costume, however, I totally agree with you that Dave Cockrum (probably my favorite costume designer of all time) and Alex Ross would have designed it a bit better. The Earth 2 Superman suit looks better. I just don't think Lee's costume is bad, just not as good as it could be, but that is all a matter of opinion.

Lee designed the Earth-2 suit as well. I like that better too. He didn't do just one design. I think it was a vote thing or something.

And that's why you think the fun is out of comics...because of his suit?

Nothing about it makes it recognizable apart from the \S/. Even the MOS costume is more recognizable.

Partly, sure. A comic that is so pretentious and ashamed of being a comic that the most old-school superhero of them all can't wear his true costume because it looks too "comic-booky" is the very definition of the No Fun League of current comics.

Yet he still looks like a comic book character.....still wears a cape, red boots, and a blue jumper. This seems like an over reaction to me if the spirit of the stories that we once loved is still there but put through a modern filter making a neo sliver age of sorts like I said before.

I see the same thing with Superman's two costumes; they basically equal the idea behind the classic look.

T shirt and jeans: The very repeatable very approachable folk tale look. It was also put together in Smallville to boot.

The space armor: The high space aspects of the old suit being kryptonian fashion. The idea that it's indestructible is also from the old suit.

The two suit take parts of the old and make it into a sort of great tribute on both parts. I keeps saying the intent of all of the classic keeping are here and alive. But if you think it's ugly then you think it's ugly...that's a matter of taste not the death of comics. But I think the comic book fun is all there, it's just put in a "neo sliver age" light.

I actually get a big kick out of the shirt and jeans costume with the cape. It looks like a kid playing super-hero, and that is fun.

I think the suit will most likely evolve into this
    Classic boots return
    Collar goes
Some of the lines will probably be gone as well

What I really don't get is why so many people seem to be upset by the collar most of all.
'The marquis. Well, you know, to be honest, he seems a little bit dodgy to me.'
'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

    But the cape?!?!

WHAT could possibly be the point of tying/shoving/sewing a cape to the back of a tee shirt?

Its the most useless affectation of the uniform.

It's a folk tale/ fairy tale look.......it doesn't need to make much sense. In story it makes complete sense and that's all that really matters.
