    Default Avengers "Greatest Foe"?

I saw this line in a new CBR post about a new IM granov 'Age of Ultron' cover image. It called Ultron the Avengers' "greatest foe"

It got me thinking, well, maybe Ultron isn't that, and this is all marketing hype, but if not Ultron, than whom?

With some it's easy: F4 - Doom; Captain America - Red Skull; Thor - Loki (arguably).

But the Avengers have had so many powerful enemies over the decades, is there ONE that stands out as the quintessential foe for the Avengers? (and please don't say "The Hood")

Throw out some ideas of who their greatest foe is, just for fun.

It's Ultron or maybe Kang....but Ultron is generally considered their greatist threat..besides Bendis.

Kang is probably the best of their most well known foes. Especially how Busiek wrote him during Avengers Forever. He was powerful and compelling.

A lot of the times, it's themselves.

isn't Ultron to the Avengers what Nimrod is to the X-Men?

Basically, it's between Ultron, Kang and the Masters of Evil, but I also think there are pleanty of other great foes, such Immortus, Nefaria, the Zodiac Cartel.
No, the Hood and Norman Osborn don't even creack the bottom of my list.

    Peace

Ultron or Kang plenty of other good foes. Given the rotating cast over the years it is good to have different foes to face whoever is on the team at a given time.

This. There's always been a vibe that the Avengers are always on the verge of self-destructing. It's arguably the reason why they don't have as clear-cut a main villain as the FF and X-Men. Villains, even the big ones, are more likely to be presented as a sideshow to the Avengers tendency towards blowing up.
