An easy way to check out some of the early Doctors is a special they did way back called The Five Doctors. It features four of the actors who played the Doctor and their various companions (including Sara Jane & Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart) all taken out of time for one adventure. You can find it online for free. It was the first time I had watched any of the earlier Doctors and I found it pretty entertaining. It made me want to go check out the earlier stuff.

Yeah, it's licensed to BBC America and pretty much at this point they air the new stories day and date. Some PBS stations still run the original series though (Although most stopped when the new series came around).

Unfortunately there's been a lot of waiting for new WHO material these past few years due to Moffat (producer) having his hands full and budget cutbacks. This year we're getting about 8 more episodes and one or two specials, and then probably have to wait until 2014 for season 8 to roll around.

BBC America was at one point showing Classic Who but they were so hacked and slashed to fit into and hour timeslot with commercials it made them totally unwatchable.
