Yes it should be a moneyless utopia
It should embrace capitalism fully just keep some minimal bureucracy and Starfleet also use money
Strong social safety net+ some sort of currency, basically a Social demoratic state
Capitalist and socialist member states that contribute manpower to Starfleet
Cyclops ad portas
And we cannot have that, now... it might become *gasp* fantasy. Oh wait... it already is. If you've already bought into the Abramverse, then you've already accepted far worse than that.
It's not really the holograms that ever killed anybody. It's things like forcefields and the like. That's what made holodeck things "tangible."

I don't know, the way they treated the whole concept of money in that movie made it seem like it was an alien concept to them.
It's possible that lines like, "You've just earned your pay for the week" by Kirk, or "I'd give real money if he'd shut up." by McCoy in the Undiscovered Country aren't actual references to the use of money but are merely idioms.
Yeah but the abramsverse so far is more consistent.

Yes. (I was laughing about that post and was going to reply to it, but you said it for me.)
I faithfully watched Classic Trek when it first came out and they did use credits. No idea what the other shows used as wasn't so faithful to them...although I think I did see an episode or two of DS9 where money was used. The Ferengi sure were enamored of capitalism.
IMHO, people are motivated by money. Barter is fine, but getting work done purely for the love of the work....eh...going to be hard to find someone in love with cleaning public toilets. Or the job of cleaning the public toilet cleaning robots when they need servicing. I'd want to get paid quite a bit for that job.
To Sleep, perchance To Dream. The computer in Logan's Run was correct. Life after 30 isn't worth the trouble. Old age is a literal pain.
I just hope that it will stay that way.

In the Into Darkness 2 comic money was mentioned for the first time.
Sorry?
I forgot, did we see them paying fo drinks in the first movie?

McCoy said that he would pay for transport. But that didn't mean that he had a bank account full of money. Rather, he could have stuff in his apartment that he could use as a form of currency for the pilot.
That assumes that Kirk wasn't being facetious.I also remember Kirk telling Scotty "you've earned your pay for the week" after he'd saved the ship for the umpteenth time in some episode.
