    Default Harbinger #8 Discussion

    Holy spit this book rocks!

The new take on Torque is awesome...So much more than just another tank. He reminds me a bit of Armor from New X-Men with a mix of Prime. And "Torquehalla" is just an amazing creation.

We also get a little throw down with PRS and a nice scenes between Kris and Flaming and between Kris and Pete.

I could not love this book more...unless maybe Lee Garbett became a regular artist. He did a great job on this issue as a last minute fill in.

I haven't read it yet, I'll get my books when I get off work.

The strategy for this slow burn introduction is working for Harbinger cause the characters have been off the scene for a good 15+yrs. It no doubt is why it's taken the last few issues for me to warm up to the title. DC tried this tactic for it's nu52 JLA and it was horrid but here, for Harbinger, it's working and I suspect this issue will raise my opinion a bit more. I'm also guessing Torque isn't going to die so soon this time around. Time to really flesh him out.

Lol for some reason I look at this team as a basketball team.

Torque is your center. Should be obvious
Kris is your point guard. Clearly the brains of the operation.
Flamingo is your shooting guard, since she is basically all offense.
Faith is your power forward a good mix of defense and offense.
Peter is your small forward. He is the ultimate all arounder

Another really strong issue, Torque is another broken toy in the box.

The character work here is great, I really savour the interactions such as Kris's conversation with Flamingo.

It will be very interesting to see how all these personalities will react under the pressure of PRS and Harada (what's up with Livewire :'0).

So glad I didn't read the previews, XO and Harby were juicy reads

Harbinger's still my favorite Valiant series. Great intro for Torque and awesome action. You can tell Dysart really isn't a super-hero writer. His fight scenes are much more like an action movie than a comic book. I normally really like Garbett's art but this seemed pretty flat to me. He probably had to rush to get the book finished after Briones left.

I think Garbett, in addition to the last minute fill in as you said, also had to adjust his style a bit. It's very different from what we saw in the XO/Ninjak arc, and more in line with the other artists brought in for the Renegades issues. I think VALIANT wants to try to keep the art styles similar through the artist changes.

Loved his Torquehalla and the fight scenes, but I can see what you are saying.

I "LOL'd" at the first page, some of the things that Torkelson was saying was hilarious. Man, what a great issue, there was so much great story and action to take in and the introduction of a new Psiot was really cool, I feel like this team is becoming well rounded. I'm wondering if Livewire is going to join Peter's group over time, I have the odd feeling as if she will break free from Harada and do so. I actually really liked the fill-in art in this issue, if this artist was the full-time artist I wouldn't mind one bit, though I still really love the main artist. All around awesome stuff this month!

Can't wait for the next issue, I'm betting it's going to be a real barn burner!

Really love this issue and the series so far. Agree that Torquehalla was pure awesomeness - reminded me a lot of the Heavy Metal movie segment with John Candy.

Harbinger wasn't one of my favorites from the original Valiant run (X-O, Eternal Warrior, Solar all were better to me) but I am absolutely loving this one so far (though I'm loving the others too!).

I love how this book is finally starting to feel like a team book, it was something that I wanted to see out of Harbinger since I heard it was a team boom back in the day and I'm glad its starting to feel like one. At first it was very Peter influenced and felt like a solo book, but now with Faith, Torkelson, and Kris in the mix it's coming together nicely.

like someone said earlier... this is how you do a team book. Every month, it's a tie between Harbinger and Bloodshot for me.

I absolutely loved this book, Torquehalla and all. The team is really beginning to come together, and I love the interactions between them. When Kris told Flamingo that it might sound silly, but we're fighting "the man" and Flamingo was all in, I got a warm fuzzy feeling. Peter telling Torque's brother to find his feminine side and then later seeing him in a dress made me laugh. And I love how Faith is really embracing the "superhero" persona to the point of having a cape. The scene with Harada and Livewire really made me worry for the future of these Harbingers and gave us just a taste of what Harada is capable of and to what lengths he will go to retain control.

And I have to admit that I really never liked Torque in the original series, but I'm really enjoying the new approach to the character and I hope he stays around for a long time. Also, I hope we still get the occasional visit to Torquehalla... great stuff.
