Well, in SSM#1 whenever he scratched Boomerang, it implanted nano tracking devices in him. The claws also had to be "popped" before use. The claws aren't used for wall-crawling. I haven't read Avenging #16, but apparently that issue has an explanation as to what the lenses are primarily used for.

The lens are basically a computer like Bruce's new contacts over in DC, no explanation for the toe claw yet though

The claws are not that bad, but the back seems a mite more.
What the lens, each wearing them feel like I'm reading ironman.

Don't the lens react w/ the danger sensors he has all over the city. And I think the Avenging issue had him running a scan w/ them on the giant spider - so they definitely have some computing / scanning technology built into them.

The claws are probably just that - but they also act as a delivery system for the next generation of Spider-tracers.

It presumes that Otto found out Peter's toes are particularly dexetrous though not opposable and decided to make some use of that. But imagine if other writers had done this earlier with the toes! The things Peter could have done with them, in and out of costume…
