So is this summer event going to be Shattered Dimensions the comic?

I remember watching an interview where Dan said he wanted to write Miles Morales, and I know he's a fan of Noir. With 2099 all but confirmed, it looks like things may be heading in that direction. It'll be something along the lines of having what it takes to be a Spider-Man and will ultimately prove why Peter has it and Otto doesn't.

I would love to see a Spidey who constantly switches between Peter and Ock. Not as a status-quo thing, but simply for an arc. It'll be pretty funny and interesting.

Well, there is still that "Who is 616 Miles?" cliffhanger from Spider-Men.

Shattered Dimensions was an awesome game, I'd love something similar in comic books. The core story wasn't anything exceptional, but different Spideys and universes made it an unique experience. And, if I remember correcty, it was Dan Slott who wrote the story!

Back to topic, I'm pretty excited. I wonder how will Ock deal with the knowledge that there is Peter in "his" body, making his way back. And I like new Toxin's design. Symbiote are drawn a little too often like big, animal beasts nowadays, so it's nice to see one more in line with classic design.

Or maybe putting him next to three other Spider-men who aren't Peter Parker might show that Pete's not really that important. Don't know if noir counts for that, though.

That's like the opposite of what Spider-Men and Edge of Time are about though (and the literally dozens of other times Peter is mentioned as being a special snowflake, but speculation seems to circle Spider-Men and SD/EoT most). Granted the latter isn't in-continuity... I don't think.

If it does go that way, it would probably be the most peculiar way to lead up to that story.
    Bad news everyone...

Whoops, by Spider-men I meant 2099, Ultimate and Noir, not the 5 part arc. Never looked into EoT so I can't comment on that.

As for the special snowflake mentions, I think it's best to look at those on a writer by writer basis.

Does noir count as Peter, btw?

Yes. The Noir Spider-Man was Peter Parker, reinterpreted as though he'd come of age in the Great Depression and set out to fight the corruption of that period after his Uncle Ben became a victim of it, a la pulp fiction heroes like The Shadow and The Spider.

As for Peter being so incredibly special, that's mostly in the sense that he was the first Spider-Man and pretty much every Spider-Man afterwards has been compared to him, sometimes favorably and sometimes not. He sets the standard by which all other Spider-Men are judged, and in some ways he's an even better exemplar of what being a hero is about than a few of his better-known contemporaries (in-universe) because he's spent years with little to no support from the media, from the public, from the government, from even his fellow heroes and plenty of antagonism from the first three categories, and he hasn't let it break him despite all temptation otherwise. If the defining trait of a hero is how said hero handles adversity, then Spider-Man is pretty much the defining hero of the Marvel Universe, because his will to be a hero in spite of how little credit or respect or support he gets for it is second to none, and even other superheroes who've gotten to know him better have commented on it. It's the reason he's recognized in the far future (2099 and Cable's time period) as one of the greatest heroes to have walked Marvel's Earth, because he had the least reason to be a hero after all the crap heaped upon him for it and he chose to keep on being a hero, anyway.

The abstract idea of Peter being special is all fine and dandy, don't get me wrong. It been built up over 50 years and I'm not arguing with that. But the specific occasions when a higher power/time traveler/random mystic bugger descends from the sky, looks Pete square in the eye and says "Boy, are you one special snowflake, just wait until you find out why!" are, I think bound to the author responsible for them.

Take the Cable thing. We don't know why he said it and as far as I know, he never elaborated past greatest hero ever. If Slott didn't directly have a hand in that, I don't expect to see it play a role in his work. That's all.

Who wants to bet Ock gets transferred into Tyler Stone's body next? Either way I'm betting Stone becomes some sort of super-villain.

You know, I just thought how it could potentially get worse for Ghost Peter. He wrestles with Doc Ock for control of his mind and body, and Doc Ock makes one last trick. A flash of white light, Peter comes too, and thinks he's successfully got his body back only to see that, not only is Doc Ock still in control of his body, Peter discovers that his mind has wound up in the body of...The Living Brain!

The Living Brain is the welfare version of characters like Vision, though. Peter could step it up and make himself a snazzy android body. Become Arach-droid.
