I've been reading John's run of GL and the GLC. I'm up to a point where this series gets added in but is it worth picking up? Does it carry over to the New52? Is it just a side story that's not very relevant or are there important details in it?

My Current Top 10: Wolverine and the X-Men, Aquaman, Batman, Earth-2, Daredevil, Wonder Woman, Batman & Robin, Thor, Guardians of the Galaxy, All New X-Men
Emerald Warriors lasted for 12 issues. It starred Guy Gardner, and the War of the Green Lanterns event occurs during the last few issues of it.
It's pretty good, and I enjoyed it. Everyone that occurred in the comic seems to have happened in the new 52, but it’s not essential reading.
yeah, i loved it. it's not essential as blinker says, but it's very good and having WotGL tied-in towards the- it's a plus.
[There's a place in my mind. The one part that isn't looking for a joke. When laughter breaks down, and humor can't quiet its hunger, the rage gets out]-Harley Quinn
I would say one could really ignore it. It had a nice arc but the story is seemingly abandoned and has no conclusion. It plays no ties to the event its supposed to be linked to so basically we got a story that ends in a limbo. So, not essential. Can read it but it basically leads nowhere by the end sadly.
I am Apocalypse! Look upon the future and tremble!
I am as far beyond Mutants as they are beyond you. I am eternal.
Evil? I am not malevolent, I simply am!
I say skip it unless you're a Guy Gardner or Sodam Yat fan.

The first, it doesn't really connect too much with War of the Green Lanterns. They mention the upcoming plot in Emerald Warriors, but nothing from Emerald Warriors gets resolved, so it doesn't deal too much with either the War of the Green Lantern event, or the new 52 at all.
Secondly, I thought it was a good read though, and liked it compared to the War of the Green Lantern event which in my opinion wasn't really good.
