Default John Carpenter's The Thing in the Death Star

During their escape from the Death Star in the first Star Wars, Luke and company fall into the trash compacter and meet The Dianoga in a well known scene from the movie. In this scenario, instead of the Dianoga, they meet John Carpenter's The Thing. How does the Star Wars saga play out with this change?

Well, it kills and copies them for a start. Some escape the Death Star, but one stays behind and surrenders. That one starts infecting Storm Troopers and commanding officers, eventually taking complete control of the Death Star. The escapees spread the Thing to the Rebels and and other heavily populated planets. The Emperor or Vader might be able to sense the infection, but I don't know what they can do to stop it if it really gets taking off.

Vader will probably just blow up Death Star, and the Emperor will call upon the Sith to destroy the threat or control it.
