Great list. Was it Kulan Gath who "villained" that memorable Spidey/Red Sonja team-up? If so, even though that's my only exposure to him, he would still make my top 10.

Klarion. Only know of him from various DC animated series, but gahh! I despise that sawed-off little so-and-so. AND his cat!

Only villain I can really add that may be overlooked in this thread is D'Spayre (MTU #68). Seriously, that guy should eat a bag of ticks.

Yeah that was Kulan Gath-he was also a villain in X-Men of all places during the Claremont Romita Jr. run, and was brought back in the Dynamite Red Sonja series.

Klarion was one of the highlights of what I have read from Kirby's Demon series.

Nice pick, the Kulan Gath story in X-Men #190-191 is a favorite of mine. For those who haven't read it, he casts a spell that turns Manhattan into a Robert E. Howard style swords and sorcery world. The X-Men and the Avengers are caught in the spell and, like everyone else, are transformed as well, with no memories of their real selves. Kulan Gath is planning to spread this to the entire world, but things don't go as he planned. Spider-Man and Dr. Strange play key roles as well; for some reason, Spidey is the one person in New York who remembers the real world and it gets him in a boat load of trouble.

    Great story.

Whoa! And they get this done in TWO issues? What EVER will they use to fill out the trade? I assume it's unreprintable like the other Howard stories, due to licensing. In which case, a thousand thanks for the synopsis. Off to ebay to find these books!

Kulan Gath also returned in Busiek's Avengers run issues 28-30.

Gath was created by Marvel for that Marvel Team Up story with Sonja, so I think Marvel at least shares the rights. The X-Men issues are reprinted in Essential X-Men Vol. 5.

Kulan Gath also turns up in Kurt Busiek's Avengers run # 28-30. Same sort of transforming-modern-world-to-ancient spell, but in South America, and with a different goal than the New York story. Plus George Perez art. Highly recommended.

Edit: and MRP beat me to it. Oh, well.

    1. Joker
    2. Kingpin
    3. Bullseye
    4. The Hand
    5. Magneto

The rest are very interchangeable. There are times I prefer the Green Goblin to Lex Luthor, or Ma Gnucci over them both. I'd also put Mr. Zsazz above The Penguin or Two-Face or Riddler...

This is an interesting question, as it made me realize how few villains I really love. There are plenty of villains I enjoy and don't mind reading about, but favorite? That's a hard one beyond the top two. Some of the villains on my favorite list are ones I have barely actually read any stories about, but like the concept of (Professor Zoom). While other villains who I have read dozens of stories about and enjoy still aren't really favorites (Red Skull).

The first two are a stone lock, but the rest are kind of up in the air:

    1. Kang
    2. Ultron
    3. Batroc the Leaper
    4. El Papagayo
    5. Professor Zoom
    6. Doctor Cyber
    7. Crossbones
    8. The Collector
    9. The Grandmaster
    10. Eddie Fyers

    In no order:

    Ultron
    Starro
    Gorilla Grodd
Taskmaster (who really, really should have fought Deathstroke some day)
    Dr. Doom
    Kobra
Terra-Man (Did he have even one appearance post-Crisis???)
Maxie Zeus (Did he have even one appearance post-Crisis???)
The Dire Wraiths (An alien race that uses magic? Bring it on!)
Brainiac (the Wolfman/Kane revamp that went from Action 544 until the Crisis, then disappeared, then reappeared for "Panic in the Sky" and sporadically after that)

    Honorable mentions:
Former favorite that I've just had enough of: Thanos
Not a villain anymore, but still a favorite: The Black Cat
Anyway, it is cool for you to acquire acrimony of crumbling time on blast this website.
