Spider-Man totally pwning mutant asshole Wolverine? Made my day! Best comic of the year for that moment alone. We need Yost on as the main writer for Spider-Man. Sorry Slott, but as much as I like you, Yost is superior. ;)

I was a bit skeptical about Spider-Ock, but if it means we can get more of him beating the hell out of Wolverine, then long live Superior!

FACT. If you are digging Yost's work here - Avengers: Earth's Mightest Heroes will not disappoint. He did great stuff on that show. Some brilliantly written episodes that he had a serious, creative hand in crafting.

I'm not quite convinced, one way or the other. Yost brought his A-game, for sure. But Slott has been building to this for a long time - and only written 1 issue of Otto wearing Peter Parker's skin, and embracing actually being him. 698-700 really don't count on that frontier. He was still, very much, Dr. Octopus then.

Slott needs to have time to tell his story. Yost has written a fantastic issue based on what Slott set up. In comparing SSM 1 and Avenging 16 - Avenging was the better book, no doubt. But I don't know we can yet say that he should be driving the car that is Spider-Man. We need to give Slott the opportunity to spread his wings on this.

Iceman edges out Spider-Ock with funny lines 3-2. All in all a healthy does of funny for a fun issue. Those lines:

    "AHHH... FREINDLY BANTER."
"THE DIE IS CAST." (Especially after using it in DD22. Ha. Oh my stars and garters, Ock should've been given his own 'excellent' character identifying catch phrase ala Simpsons' Mr. Burns years ago! :)
    "NEWSFLASH WEBS! YOU'RE NOT STANDING!"
"OH. NEVER MIND, THEN, NICE WORK!"
"I'M THINKING ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW!"

Question: Should it be easier for Spidey to cling to a giant bucking spider or a sheer pane of glass?
Question: What did he mean by 'BY HER HAIR'? Was it like a Gwen Stacy clone color?

Answer - he has the sticking power and claws. Not sure it really matters.
Answer - that was Gwen clone.

Norman did get out of the hospital... Wouldn't that be a kick, Norman ends up restoring Peter just so he has his nemesis back.

To be fair, writing a bi-weekly ASM for all that time, Slott has lost that freshness he had on Avengers Initiative. Yost only got the gig yesterday, so he's fresh and energetic. And we are all taking Slott for granted, because he has been on the book so long already.

Is Peter still Norman's nemesis, though? Things kinda cooled off on Osborn's end since OMD. Sure, he hates Spider-man, but that personalised zeal is gone.

Loved this issue! I liked it better than SSM #1. Yost is really firing on all cylinders with Avenging and Scarlet Spider. Can't wait to see where the Jackal takes things with Spiderpus. Color me intrigued.

I really love how he's still using the mad scientist talk. I seriously hope we get to hear Spidey use phrases like "Curses!" and "Fools, I'll destroy them all!"

I wonder if the Jackal poaching Mr. Sinister's labs will lead to more crossovers with the X-Men. The Jackal's ultimate goal is actually quite similar to what Apocalypse wanted.

That's true. Because of OMD, Norman doesn't know Spiderman's identity. I think that's a good thing for now, as that whole dynamic was covered pretty thoroughly in Revenge of the Green Goblin and Return of the Goblin.

I loved this. The Wolverine beat down was fun, and the reveal at the end was quite cool, particularly the intertwining of a classic Spidey villain with a classic X-Men villain.

But the best thing about this issue IMO was Paco Medina's phenomenal artwork. Just beautiful stuff. I see he is scheduled to be the artist on issue #17 as well, but not on issues #18 or #19. I really hope he's back with issue #20!

I have to admit, I am quite curious as of how Mr. Sinister met the Jackel.

Also it was a great issue and a better showing of how close Doc Ock was exposed, I'm hoping Slott picks this up by the time the Avengers fire Peter.
