Could an all NON-CAUCASIAN Avengers team work?

It is somewhat hard to understand at times what constitutes a minority. You can frankly argue blanketing people with the term "white" in and of itself is sort of stereotypical.

For example I never really knew if Thing (who is Jewish) or Wanda (who is a gypsy) count as minorities or not. Is it really just a skin color thing, or does coming from a different geographical and ethic background alone qualify you? I never entirely understood how that worked.

I think a lot of issues with, say, the fuzziness of the distinction and definition of terms like "ethnicity" and race, or the potentially-very-different meanings of "non-caucasian", "nonwhite" and "minority" clear up when you pick particular criteria that are relevant to the context of the discussion.

Audience reaction, for instance, when you're thinking of media.
And with visual media, it's easiest to base this on visible traits.

These are complicated issues irl that I think can be made less complicated when you're discussing their use in media.

It's all really just a matter of social and cultural self-identification, the physical differences between various people are wholly superficial and mask the fact that genetic differences between races are minute compared to genetic diversity to be found within a particular race.

In any event, the vast majority of the time when people speak of race they really are talking about language. After all, two people of any background can always meet up and make babies, but language differences divide communities and make assimilation quite difficult indeed. Perhaps the difficulty in coming up with politically correct terms to label all of the diversity we see in the world these days should be a tip that maybe we should just stop trying to label people altogether.

This is exactly why this is just a racism. You wanna get your favorites on by qualifying what nationalities constitute as "white" because "white" is just a vague term for your perceptions of "the man". It's disgusting. I've never felt so uncomfortable from an online comment.

Yeah because minorities created and dictate the concept of whiteness.

With the idea of an all female Avengers team being floated by fans, it seems fair to open this idea up for discussion (and not bog-down that thread with it). Who would you have in an all-non-Caucasian team? Would it work? Is it too gimmicky? Does that matter? Will it ever happen? Let us discuss the possibilities; and say who we'd have in our non-Caucasian Avengers.

What's the plot of the story? Who are they fighting that only non-Caucasian Avengers could fight?

Oh, I don't know. It would have to be explained. As I said, if they were forming an international team (maybe someone at the U.N. asks Storm and Jimmy Woo to form a "World Avengers"); you'd stand a much higher chance of having an "all non-Caucasian team" that is plausible. I also love my idea for Astonishing X-men: a Storm based team out of Genosha, centred on Africa; where having mostly African based X-men makes sense (but in my "dream team" I still use Loa and Fantomex )
