    Default Suicide Squad #16 Discussion/Spoilers

The aftermath of the Regulus and Joker arc.

All the members from the Squad are recovering after both fights and some of them are revealing interesting hints about how their powers work and how they could be affected after all the events that happened.

I really appreciate the way Adam Glass portrays these characters, all of them show great humor and personality, especially Harley Quinn who for the first time in comics is funny, smart, competent and dangerous, and it's a relief to see that she's finally getting away of Joker's influence and shining on her own. Pretty good work.

Excited for the next issue where we're going to see more of Yo-Yo's past.

It's hard to believe that with all the creative shake ups that have gone on, this one has survived unscathed more or less.

Glad you're enjoying it. This title never worked for me. I'd have liked to have seen Simone come off Batgirl and move onto this.

Simone would probably do a good job (Emphasis on "probably"), still I'm really enjoying what Glass is doing and it gets better by each issue so I'm not complaining.

Suddenly Suicide Squad is about Harley being a victim of the Joker and all members of the squad being victims of society. Issues will now include sessions of group therapy where they discuss how broken they all are.

Anyone who has read her Villains United and Secret Six stuff knows that she does well with depraved but relatable monsters.

In fact, I'd argue that is where her real strength lies.

I know that, is just that Simone's work have been kinda uneven recently.

Still, I have to admit the recent issues of Batgirl are a nice improvement over the early ones.

What I've read of Batgirl has been quite bad.

But I think, fundamentally, she's not being put on the right books.

Suicide Squad is the right book for her. Batgirl, I think she's too close to.

Problem is that she is on a book that she really, really wants to be on...think its fair to say Barbara Gordon made Simone's comic writing career, but that Simone is not that good a writer when it comes to solo-books, not when compared to her team books.

Exactly. I think her ousting from the book was -- well, if not justified (since sales are doing okay), at least understandable. The product she is turning out is, from what I've seen, mediocre. I respect passion, but passion doesn't always lead to quality. As a matter of fact, with Simone, it may actually be prohibitive to quality, given her sincere reverence for both Barbara/Batgirl and Wonder Woman, and the mediocrity of her runs on both titles (again, IMHO).

But put her on an ensemble book about sincerely depraved individuals, and suddenly she has an outlet for her quippyness and her saccharine tendencies are balanced against the naturally sharp edge of the individuals she is chronicling, leaving us with a book that has the affect of actually endearing a cast of mass murderers to us. She's also astonishingly good with thinking up some very disturbing concepts.

Putting her on Suicide Squad - and letting her move the cast around a little bit, if only to include Catman - is almost a no brainer. And it might get her off Batgirl, where she is...well, struggling.

It'll be interesting to see Ray Fawkes on Batgirl for that two issue stint. I have this feeling - just a gut feeling - that the response from fans will be surprisingly positive to those two issues. And perhaps a bit forlorn that we lost a potentially longer run from him.

So was that the end of El Diablo?

    From SS#14

In this issue Waller said - " ...it looks like El Diablo has finally accepted his new god."

What did she mean? At first it looked like they were finally going to explore, delve into his powers, after 16 issues of zero character exploration and development, whith him always about to power up and then pretty much just standing there uselessly with flames around him.

Now again, instead of any explanation, he's not even on the new mission.

Did she just sarcastically mean he's finally just accepted her as his god/master, end of story. He is in fact powerless.

Rather than exploring his power and character have they finally just given up?

Visyak replies - "...I'm not sure who he is anymore."

    Did the writers ever know?.

Glass is just probably taking his time with El Diablo since he wants to focus on Yo-Yo in the next arc.
