Exactly my thoughts. One of the more annoying things I find about this board are the self annointed positivity police who make it their duty to determine what is & isn't too negative & why it's being discussed & how much it's being discussed. If all some people wanna do is create, appreciation threads & go on ad nauseum about how they think this or that run is the greatest thing since Stan Lee or whatever then feel free BUT there are some people who like to vent their frustrations just as much as people like to praise the hell out of something.

Some things I think are excessive like Bendis Bashing but those people are entitled to their opinions just like I am & just because I disagree with them that doesn't mean I need to try to shout down their opinions by constantly telling them to stop complaining.

When you visit the X-boards, leave your inhibitions and political correctness at the door.

I think it's still more balanced here than a lot of boards and the mods are pretty good at handling the posters that go too far. No person insults are tolerated about professionals or other posters but if you see some, I never hesitate to report them. The mods can't read everything and it might take them a while to find a situation that has gotten out of hand.

I don't know if you are referring to negativity or just plain old critical thought. If someone just says the lastest issue sucks then there's no point in continuing a discussion like that. I will concede there is a fine line there between backing an argument or being nitpicky and expecting the writer to know every minute detail about an obscure character going back to 1961.

    Negativity Sells!

    On that note...

You can kiss my BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP...You son of a BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP... And another thing you BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP!

Now that you survived that cussing out you are now immune to all negativity from hence forth... Go forth my son and conquer those X-boards without fear, hesitation or the lack of self confidence that it takes to infiltrate and overthrow those TROLL terror cells strategically placed throughout the CBR forum network.

Your other options are the "Ignore" button but that can be glitchy sometimes and fail to weed out all the guilty parties.

Just remember that if it were not for the passionate emotions in comic book fandom there would probably be no industry at all which would mean that this board would not have over 100,000 members and growing.

The internet offers anonymity for those wanting to be negative to do so without having their real name associated with the rant that they post.

Of course not. Sure, I know that there different opinions, and that's great. But there is an attitude I'm talking about that just reeks of, well, being an asshole.
A smug comment made to show how cultivated they are, stating opinion about a topic as fact and bashing others that disagree, and the practice of trying to elevate their place among the geeks by dissecting everything and everyone along the way, is the kind of poster I'm referring to.
You know, the kind of person that you wish would shut up because they know everything. I'm just saying maybe they should think about why they are so angry the next time they fly off the handle over comic books, of all things.

You might be playing in the wrong threads. ChadH's thread Strange But True is a fun thread with zero negativity. My thread Another Get To Know You Thread! Yay! is silly fun, and the thread Rita's is always a fucking playground. I'm not saying no one ever gets negative in there, but it's usually filled with happiness. The beautiful thing about the internet, is you can scroll right past the negative posts. I'm oblivious to most of the negativity here because I choose not to read it.

    OP

When I returned from my year + hiatus, I made my mistake of going straight to the X-forums. I found little luck in the "Character Appreciation" threads due to a lack of activiety, or nerds just being MAD at each other. A particular tasteless comment regarding sexuality pretty much drove me away from most of the Big 2 boards.

Like Bipolar Danger Girl said, the Rita thread's a ton of fun, and good for a casual convo. I'm suprised that there's a lack of "What books did you pull this week" thread though. That sort of thing could be fun to discuss.

Ahh, so you're one of those people who enjoyed comics more before the internet too? I understand what you mean.

I think it just has to do with some fans taking themselves too seriously. Its okay to criticize. Its okay to have legitimate complaints and air them out, but we do tend to get caught up in flame wars and blogging instead of finding things we do like.

Like others have said here, stay away from the X boards, any X board involving Storm in particular.

Hmmm, these types of attitudes have been going on for ages! No matter where you go, you'll find it and probably be a part of it; indirectly or directly.

Then again, I grew up in this environment from the MySpace groups to bizarre online game boards and so on.

Plus, it's a great way to pick on verbally insulting people.

I'm brushing up now. I've noted some of the better comments for my arsenal. I should be ready to berate someone easily when I'm feeling low.
