I like the guy who wrote Ultimate Spiderman, Alias or The Pulse, but I totally hate the guts of that guy who ran Avengers the last decade

After the clusterfuck that was Disassembled, I still gave Bendis the benefit of doubt, and went through the whole NuAvengers Vol.1, but this just felt slow and dumb to me. He needed like a whole year just to get the team together and then never did any interesting with them, instead introducing Spiderwoman and seemingly forgetting about the other characters (especially Sentry who had a painfully slow introduction). Same went for storylines that were slowly introduced and then quickly forgotten (There was a hidden agenda behind the prison break! Forget that, there's something rotten in Shield. No, wait, umm, Suddenly Skrulls! This time extra serious!). I know some of the plot-hooks were taken up years later by other writers (Secret Warriors), but for as long as I suffered New Avengers, it was all build up, without any kind of satisfying closure.

Later I picked up Dark Avengers, but while the banter was indeed enjoyable, the actual story was again all buildup again (we've been shown for the whole run, just how logic-defying ridiculiosly unkillable the Sentry is, how many times!?) without a satisfying end (After being erased from the timestream or being disassembled on a molecular level, Mjolnir or not, a hammer to the head just doesn't feel right).

I don't get why people "hate" him I love his Ultimate Spidey and creator owned stuff, and so far I've liked his Xmen, I didn't care for the way he did Avengers but that's about the only complaint I have about the guy

I'm okay with Bendis in general, but I definitely think his character voices are often "off". Illyana Rasputin in All New X-Men is just the latest example; she's making Bendis-quips that sound completely unnatural to her character.

Very much like Johns at DC I think Bendis is just really lazy. He gets big projects and sells a shit ton regardless, so why would he put in effort?

Daredevil was my absolute favorite. By the time he'd gotten two Avengers comics, it's like he felt his work was done. All New X-Men...sells more than should be possible, even for books that aren't terrible. And on top of that it gets good reviews, honestly I think he sold his soul.

Disassembled got a lot of hate (and rightfully so), and he has trouble with continuity.

A lot of the hate can be traced to these two things, but people also started to hate on Avengers and New Avengers as time wore on. I think after doing so many books for so long, he just got burnt out on Avengers books. I mean, at one point he was writing Mighty Avengers, New Avengers, Secret Invasion, co-writing Secret Warriors, plotting Dark Avengers and working towards Siege (he might have still been working on Powers as well, can't remember). That's just a lot to do.

But once he got on a new project with new characters (All New X-Men), he's shining again.

    Dude just needed something different.

There is hatred for everyone, including Bendis. He gets a lot of it because the somewhat polarising nature of his writing, and the fact that he's been on high-profile franchises for quite some time now.

Bendis is hit and miss with me. His dialogue is pretty painful now and then, but sometimes it's great. His Dark Avengers, Ultimate Spider-Man and Daredevil: End of Days are all amazing. Most of his Avengers (especially towards the end) is pretty horrid. ANXM falls somewhere in the middle for me, probably because of my great dislike of all non-Cyclopean X-Men.

To this day I still regret buying Avengers #30
No one should have to read about Spider-Woman's period.

if you're an Ultimates reader, then you certainly wouldn't have much of a reason to hate Bendis. you're already reading mediocre garbage.

This is another criticism I don't understand (and I do get that you're not the one making these criticisms, James). People do sometimes joke around with each other in the real world. I see no reason why that can't be reflected in the pages of a superhero comicbook.

I don't hate Bendis the person. I don't know the man.
I do dislike his work a great deal. To the point that I avoid everything he writes.

I used to like his work a lot. Now I find him to be hit and miss.

Daredevil was great, Ultimate Spider-Man was great for a long time, and Avengers was really good early on. His runs on Avengers and Ult. Spider-Man really dragged at the end though. I never bothered with any of the Miles Morales issues. The series was dragging ass at that point and once thye killed off Peter it was an easy excuse for me to drop the title and save 4 bucks a month. I loved his Avengers work before the Heroic Age relaunch. It seemed like they were constantly fighting their way through hell and it was compelling to read. Once the Heroic Age started it seemed like thye were back to being on top of the world and the threats just didn't seem quite as large. And I wont even get started on those horrible AvX tie-ins.

I hate All New X-Men. I've hated the premise since first hearing about it but I bought the first few issues anyway, hoping that Bendis would prove me wrong. I should have avoided it. I really hope I don't end up hating Uncanny as well.
