Nothing wrong with Wolverine. He's a great character. However, in the popular "think of the children" rationale, he's not an ideal role model.

For the record, let me make it known that I don't care. Comics are a medium that has shown violence since its inception, and I'm totally fine with it.

I would hardly call MJ or Storm "abused".

It's not a question of equality. I don't think anyone's holding a clicker to see who get hits more, men or women. I think Mets's point was that if women in comics are powerful enough to stand toe-to-toe with the men, they are powerful enough to take a shot. For the most part, men aren't shown hitting women in comics, but it occasionally happens. To say that men have to stay with men and women have to stay with women is vaguely sexist, particularly when there's no "moral code" that says a woman can't hit a man.

And here's the thing: it was distasteful and offensive to you, but others took it in stride. This thread wouldn't even exist if there weren't different opinions to be had, and all of those opinions are valid. For me, it was just a super hero hitting another one. These are super-powered people we're talking about, so it's not fair to try to apply real-world ethics into a place where they just don't apply.

It's a vaguely outdated view of women.

Storm is combat trained, and one of the most deadly women on the planet. Not some defenseless housewife that can't protect herself from an abusive husband.

In other words, Storm could probably beat the hell out of any one of you schlubs (and you'd probably like it). So don't worry about Storm, she'll be just fine.
