100 - lots of flashbacks, great cliffhanger
200 - horrible Marv Wolfman writing
300 - about 10 pages of story, drawn in a horribly dated style by MacFarlane
    400 - pretty decent
    500 - godawful
600 - decent, but dragged down by horrible Romita Jr art
700 - by far the best

    What happened to him?
Doc Ock - I'm Peter Parker.
Peter Parker - Not anymore Spider-Man. From now on I'm Peter Parker.

I cannot recommend Scarlet Spider enough, but here's trying.

Well, I don't think his work on #600 was quite "horrible" but it wasn't up to his standards either. On the whole, I much prefer JRJR's style from the 1980's (his ASM and X-Men runs from that decade are the best his work has every been IMO) over anything since. His current "Kick-Ass" work is actually pretty good but I haven't much liked his superhero stuff in some time.

JRjr's style has its ups and downs. In the start, his style was very much like his dad's style. Then later when he developed the more blocky (best word for it I could come up with) look, it was quite a change. Unique, though. And although I did not like it at first, it grew on me. He's a really decent guy, too, from what I have seen in interviews with him. And I'll be honest, that helped me appreciate his work more.

I loved his Peter Parker/Spider-Man stuff in the 90's. Iwould later love the 80's stuff. I thought his stuff with JMS and whoever that colorer was is his best work of all time. His BND stuff looked different. NWTD was reminescent of his late 90's work. 600 was just... I didn't like it. When he drew Avengers I was totally surprised by how bad it looked. All the characters were blocky and his backgrounds and environments were sloppy, colors were all over the place, they lacked detail. I don't know what happened.

For his earliar Spidey stuff and his flawless JMS work he's still in my top ten all time. I know he'll work on ASM again and I'll be there with open arms. I'll always support him because he drew some of my favorite comics (ASM Vol.1//PeterParker/Spider-Man Vol.1 // ASM Vol. 2).

It's interesting that him being a decent guy gets you to subjectively enjoy his work. I'm not saying anything one way or the other about it. It's just interesting.

Blocky. Exactly. His Avengers characters were blocky. That's the best way I can describe it too. And i've heard him in commentaries on one of the old Spider-Man movies. He's definitely into his work which is awesome but it doesn't sway me one way or the other with the guy. I met Ron Garney at a con and I talked to him for 5 or so minutes. He told me a really interesting story about Back in Black and how it came to be. But even though I like him, I think he first story arc on ASM was bad and his second story arc (BiB) was completely amazing.

I really liked his '00's work with JMS on Amazing and agree how bad his Avengers work was the last few years. Just downright bad to look at.

But his stuff with JMS was almost as horrible as the writing, and that's pretty horrible

Its not always a factor. But I realized that my 1970s and 1980s bias for depictions of Spider-man was keeping me from even trying to enjoy a guy who really was into his work. So he got points with my that tipped him over the edge into my "like" category. Compare that with a guy like Liefeld, who really seems like a jerk. How creators are does affect how I view their work.
