Ranma is more of a pre-emptive deconstruction of harem anime. Yes, he can be a bit spineless, but that's mostly partially because he doesn't actually (think he) want(s) to be in a relationship right now, and all the girls after him are dangerous and more than a little bit unstable in their own ways. He's basically what Miu would be if Hayato was also a con artist and if she started the series at Master level.

I was meaning that most of the harem main character guys are spineless and scared of the women/sex, though then there's usually one of the women that's simply there for fanservice sake. I just wish that there was a harem anime with plenty of fanservice where the guy actually did something with the women sexually, but not in a hentai way or anything, just that we'd know that he and one of the women had been together than night...anime may have the most fanservice though imho even movies and shows like those from Disney occasionaly have some fanservice in them, not nearly the same as in anime but it's there...

I'm pretty neutral on the topic. I've enjoyed some manga and anime with a lot of fanservice, but I'll take a good story, likeable characters, and compelling action over panty-shots any day. I understand how some people can like it a lot, but I don't generally go looking for anime or manga that focus on that. In my opinion: a little fanservice > no fan service > a lot of fan service.

I like fanservice a lot, however I don't like it if it's just fanservice, there has to be a story to back it up. The art is a lot of the reason that I pick an anime, if I can't stand to look at the characters then I won't last on the show long enough to enjoy it...it's just better than a lot of cartoons that are usually on that go out of there way to ignore things like that or downplay it as something horrible.

Some is okay, but to be honest, like another poster said, my top ten won't be heavy fanservicey anime most likely. Mind you, I like several anime/manga with quite a bit of fan service (Negima, Love Hina, the Tenchi's, etc.....).

I tend to get annoyed when fanservice is placed in as filler instead of letting the plot move along.

As a perfect example, Outlaw Star has a few fan service scenes, but nothing overly gratuitous or longer then a second or too (Melfina in the tube, as an example). Nothing to really slow the episodes down.

And then you get a solid episode dedicated to fan service. One so much so, it was edited out of the original airing in America. I didn't find out about it until I bought the series.

And other than explaining where Gene got his three rare caster shells, the episode is a complete waste of time as far as plot.

I'm more one that hates to see instances where they go out of their way to avoid fanservice, like back in the old days when you knew the artist wanted to have nudity or something close it to but changed it just enough...

And there's also an episode of Pokémon where James gets breasts and dresses in a bikini...also edited out for the American broadcast. Rune Solider again has a fair amount of fanservice but none of it is really there just for its sake, the one character that runs around half naked is not a character that anybody would mess with, as she'd kick the crap out of anybody that tried anything with her...

I don't generally enjoy Anime that's fan service centered, but I don't mind it if used sparingly and logically. Heck, even Full Mental Alchemist has 1 bathtub scene.

I think that most anime that are for over a certain age have fanservice, I won't buy an anime unless it has a fair amount, not that it's the central theme of the show per se but that it's there, Queen's Blade is over the top but like Sekerei is fun, just wish that they'd make a harem with a male lead that wasn't overly nice and all and afraid of the women, not that he'd be a jerk either but...

im bias i will not lie i LOVE fan service, however im not blind about how it CAN harm a book / show

EXAMPLE === the Witchblade anime series = loved every aspect of the show from the fanservive to the animation style / design to the story to the voice acting.
    its fan servicy as hell.

thats its only flaw, its not a flaw in terms of detriment with whats put on screen, but its a flaw in terms of how it will appear to some viewers.
as the shows central themes of a mother's love for her daughter and what she will do to protect her are, deep and very emotionally well done.
but many viewers who are put off by the fan service nature of the animation and character designs, will never discover such they will stop watching it before the story and character can properly develop.
too many times have i seen people write the show off as pure hollow sexy for sexy sake with no characters to connect to.

and above all else, the biggest problem of all, is that people against it write off its supporters as immature pervert children.
just cus we want attractive sexy heroines, that absolutely does not mean we want back broke poses or porn faces.
there is realistic sexy and there is Forced ugly false sexy

we are not asking for this kind of bullshit

where asking for more of say... this

it works there is diversity in the cover's women itself, young teen jean is not sexualized at all, as she should not be out of context. however frost, by nature of her character is Aways sexy regardless of context, and also you can see the detail and hard work cho put into emma with the gorgeous cross hatching (not to mention that this is just a great damn complex cover)

and another, thing we need more of
being shown as sexy dont not INSTANTLY lessen or degrade the amount of bad ass a female can be or can look at the very same time.
    example

    examples
valkyrie here looks like a fit strong bad ass warrior ready for war, but her hair and face look beautiful, but cho also leaves a tiny bit of femininity in her outfit with with the purple braids in her pony tails

another example, she hulk here, yes has big boobs, has her legs spread in a somewhat suggestive manner but her face is NOT a orgasm or fuck me face the expression if perfect for the situation, and also with the proper amount of muscle she has in her arms and legs, she looks like she could beat out asses easily.

compare that very Hulked out but still sexy she hulk to these skinny stick like she hulks

That middle She Hulk's proportions are completely bizarre, and Red She Hulk looks kinda like a furry.

I think that the middle She Hulk is done by J Scott Campbell, who did the Disney's princess' a while back and they look great...personally I've never liked the version's of She-Hulk where she's all big and got a lot of muscles, not that she'd be slim and sexy but somewhere in the middle, I've never liked women with big muscles...always looked gross to me. Kind of would like to see the Red She-Hulk drawn like the middle one...though to be fair Jean's never really been thought of as the sexy one...so that's partially why she's rarely sexualized....the other comic book lady is drawn that way to look sexy, sure it's probably not a physical pose that's possible but...

As for anime the Witchblade anime had the other characters having the hots for the mom and her boobs and her daughter aware of it and used that to get what she wanted. Again I like watching anime with fanservice because it makes the show fun to watch.
