Wow, it took almost as long to read this thread as it did to do the interview.

The unprofessional, coffee-klatch tone of the interviewers didn't help, either. Certainly not a podcast I'll subscribe to.
NO biggie we have plenty of people who LIKE our coffee-klatch tone. Seriously we had about 5 minutes to prep this interview as it came together very quickly. We've interviewed Scott before so felt pretty good about doing it on the fly.

I think what he said about Lois is spot on. Good to have another writer that understands, despite the current storyline, the importance Lois plays to the mythos.

Actually it's nice seeing a writer discuss things without having the PR turned on high for the book. Also cute hearing him dealing with his son, although I wonder why you would get a child so young an ipad but that's just me. (Unless it's one of those leap frog ones that don't break easily) Very nice interview, it actually made me go back and listen to all your podcasts.

Its Superman so of course I'll give it a shot but my excitement has been completely sapped, scared of an approach here that he's taking with Batman which while in the minority I just find not at all impressive. Even if its not my cup of tea though, I won't hold any umbrage toward a different approach on one title...unless its starts fudging with the mythos Morrison has rebuilt. He tries to touch that then I become unhappy.

And I personally think it pretty unfair to accuse any current Superman writer of not understanding the importance of Lois in the mythos. Although she does not fill a massive role in Morrison's run, her presence is clearly felt, and while Lobdell has not done much with her yet, this is mainly due to the H'El arc, and before that began he clearly set up a dynamic for them to get back to. And the fact this dynamic may not be appealing to some nor the dynamic they want does not invalidate it.

So, if Lois is the north star, does that make Superman.....The Fist of the North Star?

Maybe Snyder refers to Marvel's Northstar, and if Lois is Superman's Northstar, then he's her Kyle Jinadu.

I often laugh when I hear fans complain that Superman will lose his humanity. Imagine a human with the power of Superman. Clark's humble upbringing makes him what we'll never be. A being with the power of a god who chooses to help instead of ruling with an iron fist. That's the reason why my reaction to Lois being his northstar was

By the way, I doubt very much that the Clark and Diana romance will end anytime soon; so whether you're a fan of the pairing or against it, keep an open mind and enjoy the ride. That's what I'm doing.

I really like stories that alienate him not because he’s an alien himself physically or because he has this weird power set, but because sometimes doing the right thing is lonely. And I think in a lot of ways that’s what connects him to Lois as well, you know, and part of what we’re getting at (and to Luthor!). So that sense of alienation not because he’s Superman or from another world but because in certain moments it can be incredibly hard to do what’s right. That’s one of the key things that we’ll be playing with. The story is big. It’s going to be a sort of big eight issues feature and backup essentially. The backups are really going to explore his relationships as Clark and the features will be big and bombastic and fun. […]

Diana has a cameo in it so does the Justice League itself. But not because of what’s going on in those books but because I think she’s an important figure as an ally. It’s less about their romantic relationship in mine than it is literally about her point of view on what Superman should do at a key moment. […]

It’s definitely a Clark-centric story in that it’s not…the supporting cast plays a really big role. Out of it, Lois plays the biggest. She definitely has a key storyline to it. So, yeah, so far she’s in every issue with a moment that’s important to the story. She definitely is a really important voice to Clark as well in terms of…part of the story is about him trying how to decide if what’s he’s doing or what’s he’s done throughout the story is right or not and Lois plays a really key role. And I think in a emotional way: the real core movements of the story emotionally for him. And, I’m not talking about emotional in a love/friendship way but more an ethical/philosophical viewpoint.

The thing that fascinates me about Lois to Superman I guess to get at it is in a lot of ways she represents to him what inspires him about humanity in a lot ways. No matter what she’ll go for the truth. No matter what she’ll do what’s right. Even if it means going up against tremendous odds. That isolation and loneliness that that brings to Lois to it means going up against her father it means going up the Planet, going up against people who will kill her. It’s something that he looks at and it makes him think about humanity the way he wants to. He gives us room to do the right thing instead of doing what he thinks is the right thing for the planet. So for me she’s very much like a North star for that for him.

    Thanks for posting the quote

I think Snyder may have a definitive vision of the Superman mythology. Everything he's been saying so far is resonating strongly with me.

While I'm looking forward to his portrayal of Superman, Lex Luther, Wonder Woman, Justice League, etc, I'm also looking forward to reading his portrayal of Lois (believe it or not ) I particularly find the prospect of utilising her character as 'philosophical' symbol (rather than the traditional 'love' symbol) very intriguing and an idea I can really get into.

    Can't wait for issue 1 !!!!!
