I would be willing to bet that there are quite a few Orson Welles, Stanley Kubrick and Alfred Hitchcock's movies (along with many other awesome directors) that you haven't seen yet. And let's not get into TV Shows where you have Breaking Bad, Dexter and a lot of others (even "old" stuff like Rome, Oz, The Wire and Deadwood). There's plenty of quality stuff out there. So much I probably won't be able to see all of it before dying. So, saying there's "not enough quality entertainment out there" doesn't really works (not that you need an excuse, if you want to watch Twillight you should watch Twillight).

I liked ivamp but I think I was about ready to let this one go, same as I was with frank. I was very sad when sorrentino left and i really couldnt get into the latest Issue with all the stiffness and ridiculous facial expressions. i felt like the artist at some points were ruining fialkovs script. I'll finish out the series regardless.

Is this supposed to be a joke? If not, then that's beyond lazy on your part especially if you have Netflix.

Twilight made vamps into more or less misunderstood creatures who tended to be most dangerous to humans when either very young or very old, totally romanticized them. Rice's books from the 80s did that too (I read the first 3 or 4 books), but there was a strong element of horror, as with VD.

Being Human is pretty scary, actually. Both the American and British versions. But of course the human element is impossible to deny because it's in the title. If you watch it, though, the characters trying to hold onto their humanity really have an uphill battle, and tend to lose a lot, like an addict who just can't quite kick the habit. Shows like Forever Knight and Moonlight show them as more or less human, but don't seem to be near as much geared toward female audiences as Twilight and Vampire Diaries. And I think it's just that focus which creates a negative reaction, at least among male viewers.

Personally, I have seen all 4 Twilight films and continue to watch VD. I know they're too girly, but there's just not enough quality entertainment out there, seriously. But when I think about how cuddly the monsters in Twilight are, I can't help laughing, it's just so ridiculous.
The Vampire Diaries is a lot more than just girly mess though. From S1 to S2, it was written by Kevin Williamson, the guy who created Scream, Dawson's Creek, and he's currently writing The Following for FOX (which is likely to get loads of critical acclaim.) It's no guilty pleasure for me. Of course, since Kevin's departure, it really hasn't been as good but it pulls off amazing episodes every now and then. I think S1 and S2 definitely made it one of the best written shows in recent years.

Joke? Yeah, partly. But I hit the cinema once a week just to get away from the wife. If you knew her you'd understand.

Don't get me wrong. I like the show, but the cast of characters looks like the cover of a harlequin book. Surely not every vampire should look like an underwear model!

I've often wondered the same thing. Those early covers were pretty misleading as to the actual content...

totally not surprised. I read the book monthly and I enjoy it and I know I'm part of the minority. It was one of dc's hidden gems. However this only means I'm buying less and less books from DC since they cancel all their books I buy and its actually great timing because I'm buying more Marvel books since they're relaunching everything.

IMO You're only safe with DC if you're buying Wonder Woman (which is currently awesome), Superman (they started off horribly so I didn't bother), Batman (DC's version of Wolverine because he appears everywhere he doesn't belong) and Green Lantern.
