I, for one, am very excited about this. I've always liked Mr. Dixon's stuff - he's very diverse. And I've really liked the IDW G.I.Joe line since the revamp a few years back. Not as 'over the top' as ARAH was towards the end (not sure since its reboot as I don't read it), but like Dixon said, it's still got a lot of fantastical elements, but he attempts to keep it grounded.
And if this book is similar to the old Special Missions, where they don't HAVE to fight Cobra every issue, they could do other black ops stuff, that's fine by me. Even in the fictional world of G.I. JOE, Cobra is not the only bad guys out there. Looking forward to where they take these books next (include Fred Van Lente's new G.I.JOE book as well, and the always extremely awesome Cobra book by Costa.)

So come relaunch time, there will be 3 books? Or 4...?
Well, I don't like the artwork I've seen from the artists they say will be working on the main GI Joe title or this Special Missions title, so if there is another one they're launching hopefully I'll like who's working on that. I want to get a GI Joe comic but find it hard to buy comics with artwork don't like...
EDIT: I maybe take that back, if I see correctly that Kurth did the art on the covers for the first two issues of the GI Joe title, then I'd be all for some GI Joe with Kurth.
Hard to verify though, since it doesn't really look like other examples of his art I've found.

IDW: TMNT, MTMTE, G.I. Joe
Dynamite: Pathfinder
Red 5: Atomic Robo
Marvel: Thor: GoT, JIM, Powers, Scarlet Spider
There will be three:
1) Main G.I.Joe book by Fred Van Lente
2) Special Missions book (mentioned in article) by Chuck Dixon
3) Cobra Files (I think that's the new title) by Mike Costa
The Special Missions book is essentially replacing the Snake Eyes book. I *think* they might be taking Snake Eyes off the table for awhile, which is fine by me. The invincible ninja stuff gets old after awhile, at least to me...

I just got the the new Cobra Files: Son Of The Snake Tbk by Mike Costa. Really like it, Costa has a witty sense of humour when it comes to dialogue.
I got recently a complete run of GI joe/cobra/snakeeye comics and i am currently reading through them. I'm at #7 of GI Joe/Cobra/snakeeye. I read them in conjuncture because of the crossover event cobra civil war and I dont want to read all the GIjoe titles, then come back at #1 of cobra then #1 of Snakeeye know what im saying. First serie of GIjoe was good, nothing special, but since the second volume of GIjoe and Cobra title, it's getting really good. Best of the serie so far was the 2 mini serie Cobra and the later GIJoe-cobra issues featuring Chuckles. Now that shit was good.
They had me at Gulacy. I still take out my old MOKF issues every year and marvel at his art. Can't wait until March.
Batman, GL, Miss Fury, Uncanny X-Men, Hypernaturals, Witch Doctor, Casanova, Green Arrow, COPRA. +A bunch of trades every month.
Agreed. I've been reading the interviews about the relaunch, and I see a lot of people complaining to high heaven in the comments that Snake Eyes isn't in the book. I personally don't think he's all that interesting, and would rather not have the G.I. Joe version of Wolverine popping up all over the place.
I like Fred Van Lente's answer in an interview about this:
Q: Notable by his absence in the new G.I. Joe title is Snake Eyes… can we assume we’ll be seeing more of him somewhere along the way?
A: Read Snake Eyes’ book.

Not a big fan of Snakeeye neither. It's cool if he appears in the regular GI Joe titles but I don't think a comic just for him is justified.
I like how Dixon keeps his GI Joe stories grounded with military research and how he gets encouragement from servicemen and women who grew up with GI Joe. I remember overhearing a solider at an airshow in 1988 talking how cool the GI Joe cartoon was while kids were climbing over his M60 tank.
Chuckles is alive!!! I just read Cobra #12 and man, I was so happy when I saw him again at the end. By far my favorite character of the serie and a personnal fav all comics from any publisher combined. Normaly I hate when they bring back the dead, but for this one, I'll make an exception :)
