Default CW president discusses "Amazon", "Supernatural" and more

Mark Pedowitz took the stage at the Television Critics Association winter press tour to offer updates on a potential Wonder Woman show, a now-dead "Battle Royale" adaptation, a "Vampire Diaries" spinoff and more.

A Battle Royale TV show? Yeah I'm not touching that with a forty foot pole.

    Emphasis mine.

Perhaps they should think of this as something for the 2015-16 television season. It might be ready for a pilot by then.

    "The Originals"

Speaking of pilots, a "Vampire Diaries" spinoff will receive a "backdoor pilot" later this year, according to Deadline. The CW is looking at a potential show featuring Klaus and his clan--the world's first vampires--as they apparently move away from Mystic Falls and taking up residence in New Orleans.

“You’ll have the melting pot of New Orleans and deal with a lot of voodoo and everything that goes with it,” Pedowitz said.
I pretty much saw this one coming.

Also it's not often you have a spin off that feature a villain character.

Except that Klaus is no longer a villain any more than Damon is.

Thats the problem a lot of shows have when they introduce a villain who is more interesting than the main characters (and Klaus is far more interesting at this point than the SalvaBORE brothers and Whinelena), they have to find a way to make him stick around and that inevitably leads to turning him into a quasi good guy.
Price your book at $3.99 and I'll trade wait. Make me wait too long for the trade PAPERback and I'll say screw it. I'm looking at you Marvel and Spider Island.

Not to worry. TV is Heinberg's real job, so he'll actually pay attention to the deadline.

I hope that with the success of Arrow, they'll put more effort into the Wonder Woman pilot. I think the problem with David E. Kelly's attempt is that CW was looking for another Smallville and that's just not the kind of story Wonder Woman is. Maybe now they're willing to try a different approach with Amazon and Arrow could be key to that success.

Did you miss the last episode? Klaus killed a lot of people particularly Tyler's mother. I think he's back in villain territory.

Hey I'm with you on that one. Which is why I'm not too bothered by it.

Knowing the VD writers they'll pull some kind of ass pull that would have Klaus magically regret his actions and would spend the majority of the spin off atoning for his crimes.

Interesting enough that scene did made me like Klaus a little bit. He was a full fledged villain. Not a misunderstood vampire that was chasing after Caroline.

I really hope something comes of this Amazon show, and that they take the time to do it right. But not too long, Heinberg. I ain't getting any younger...

And while I could stare into Jensen Ackles eyes for another 8 seasons, it's time to put Supernatural to rest.

Agreed. The show is starting to show it's age.
