Default Clone Saga and Life of Ben Reilly

Wanted to go back and grab a series.......just wondering peoples opinions on these two runs as I know that they are a couple of the lengthier runs. Not sure if there is a complete TPB of either out there????

It's collected in a series of TPBs.

There's the Clone Saga (a five volume series). And it's followed by a six volume series called the Ben Reilly epic. The cover price is 40 bucks or so for each of the eleven TPBs.

I wouldn't recommend it, although others will.

I read most issues and wasn't that impressed.

What they need to do is make an essential clone saga TPB. Cut out all the filler stories, and everything that isn't, well, essential about the story.

I would recommend it very highly. It is up there with Batman: Knightfall and No Man's Land as one of the greatest comic sagas ever, in my opinion.

If you like good art, action, change, twists, turns, characters that develop and stories that stay with you, then you'll love the clone saga. Buy the first trade at least and see what you think.

They kind of did. It's called 'The Real Clone Saga.'

There are five books under the "The Complete Clone Saga Epic" banner and six "The Complete Ben Reilly Epic" books. There's a lot of good material in there, and a lot of bad stuff. I find that ignoring most of the auxiliary books (Spider-Man Team Up, Spider-Man Unlimited) makes the books easier to read. For the most part, the main four of Amazing, Spectacular, Adjectiveless and Web Of (replaced by Sensational) are all great, as are the Lost Years and Final Adventures miniseries. The New Warriors issues seem awful but are dropped in there just because Ben was part of the team for a while, but you'll likely be confused by the rest of the character stuff going on unless you're a NW aficionado. I've got reviews of four of the books if you care to have a look, they're quite in-depth:

    Clone Saga Vol. 2
    Ben Reilly Vol. 1
    Ben Reilly Vol. 2
    Ben Reilly Vol. 5
My latest reviews @ Rambleast, Another Castle and Amazon

You could also just hunt down key back issues.

The first two books of the Clone Saga are a bit cheaper on Amazon (~$25). I just got done with the first one. I would recommend it for sure! It's all new to me though, so I can't comment on anything after.

I am surprised they haven't made a animated movie out of this yet. You could easily get about 4 or 5 90 minute movies.

Mets gave the breakdown of the collected edition of the Saga (though he left out the collection of the 1970 Saga book). And I'd highly recommend the whole thing. Wonderful story, until the very end, for me.

So...just do one issue where at the beginning Peter is claiming to be "the Spider," the middle is a big fight scene, and at the end Ben Reilly is melting into a puddle of goo?
