Beginning of series Inuyasha is taken by end of series Ranma as his student in martial arts, this is before going on his adventeres with Kagome. How far does he go in his training? How each version of Inuyasha effect the show. For this Inuyasha actually does want to be trained and obeys Ranma's instruction.

Here's the amount of time he gets in each scenario:

scenario 1: One Years.

scenario 2: Two Years.

scenario 3: Three Years.

scenario 4: Four Years.

scenario 5: Five years.

scenario 6: Six years.

scenario 7: Seven years.

scenario 8: eight years.

scenario 9: Nine years.

Inuyasha: You crazy bastard! How the hell is throwing me into a pit of freakin' cat demons, training! I'll kill you!

Ranma: Hey, you survived, didn't you? And it's how my Pop trained me. Sure, they weren't demons, but the same principle applies. But if you think you're already good enough to take an asskicking from yours truly, I'll happily put ya in your place again!

Eventually Ranma will probably take over the Dojo and may even do a good job running it. But not until after he graduates from High School, and maybbe trains a little longer plus get's teaching experience.

So, end of series? Not yet. 4 or 5 years after that? Probably.

All I see Inuyasha doing is complaining about actually having to train instead of receiving a new upgrade for his sword.

Considering that he's nearly died each time to earn those power-ups, I don't find this statement being fair to him.

In IY-verse, most power ups are based on either magical artifacts or years of sorcery/priest(ess)ly/sennin training rather than Kung Fu magic. Not to mention that the Youketsu sensing/cutting was a pretty neat training arc.

Still though, Ranma's training will be useful against the likes of Kouga and Sesshoumaru, but essentially useless against Naraku and Mouryoumaru. So IY will enjoy punching his fellow canines in the schnoz at will, but will still need Tessaiga properly leveled up to face his real enemies.

The idea of Inuyasha fighting on even terms with Sesshoumaru really appeals to me, the idea of him being a better hand to hand fighter than him appeals to me even more.
