Who cares if some of them were biased? They didn't kill any mutants, and defended them with their lives. It's definitely a shades of gray thing. Do you really think that people must possess the purest motivations in order to do their jobs?

On topic, Does Juston possess any skills beyond a basic understanding of engineering? What's his strategy for survival?

Aside from Nico's magic tree (speculation from me on its purpose from #4's preview), the universal strategy of "have fire, you're cool against EVERYTHING the wild can throw against you!" and a quick shot of the Brit's with dead rabbits, we really haven't gotten much in terms of wilderness survival.

As someone who loves the hell out of Survivorman and similar programs (and hiking/fishing/etc in real life), I find that extremely disappointing.

Reviewing is a lot like paleontology: the evidence is there, but no one seems to agree on it.

Speaking of, how has the issue of Nico's magic potentially giving Arcade an an aneurysm, creating a portal, summoning help, contacting the Avengers, etc. been resolved? I assume the story offered an explanation by now?

One of my real nitpicks with Gage's handling of Avengers Academy is that he wrote Juston like the Sentinel was his only friend, while McKeever really put a lot of thought in creating Juston's supporting cast. Heck if they do kill Juston (something I'd be really upset about) I'd be totally cool if they gave the Sentinel (or maybe repaired the Stealth Sentinel) to Jessie Ingram and let her become a kick-butt legacy hero.

Fresh coat of paint = problem solved~
Oh, my mistake. I thought the point you were trying to make was "It's not actually evil or racist that sentinels exclusively hunt and kill mutants."

    Because it is.

Ha! Avengers Arena! Explaining things! That's a good one!

Another real gripe I've had with how Juston was handled after how his series was canceled is that his Sentinel was looking less and less like a standard issue mutant hunting Sentinel as the book progressed. The face plate was damaged, a hood from a snowplow was grafted to the torso, and finally parts of the arms and shoulders were replaced with parts from a Sentinel that was specifically built to fight other giant robots (Not Mutants.) It added a real nice patchwork look to the robot visually and symbolically represented what Juston was doing with it.

When Juston returned in Avengers Academy all the changes had essentially been ignored and the Sentinel went back to being a stock Sentinel. If anyone should be blamed for Juston having a symbol of hate walking around, it should be an artist who didn't do enough research.

In the second series when he ran from home Juston was able to fend for himself in the woods for a period of time and seemed to cope just fine. So he clearly has some survival skills.

Also prior to finding the Sentinel he had built some fairly impressive little remote control robots with no formal training. So he's clearly a little bit of a mechanical prodigy. I imagine after some time training with Dr. Pym he's learned enough to MacGuyver his way out of trouble.

I a bit miffed that the why-can't-they-escape thing hasn't been addressed yet. I know Hopeless wants to focus on the characters but this is a huge plot hole.

Red Raven was a good example of why they can't escape.
