I have all the titles from the original AOA on special editon golden covers. Roger Cruz was at his best. Def a top ten.

No. It was utter garbage.

Absolutely. This is one of the few alternative story lines where the characters didn't feel out of character even though their development/backstory was different. Easily a top ten for me.
What is this, Horseville? Because I'm surrounded by naysayers.
I quit reading x-men comics for like 12 years thanks to it, I just cbf.

Nope, it was a great idea with some not so great execution.
It would definitely fall in my top ten. Such a huge shift in the paradigm, epic in scale and every title in the run had a reason for being. I haven't read the current series, but otherwise wish they left the concept lie after it's initial "apocalyptic" conclusion. Having said that, I could let Exiles slide...
I definitely think so. It was amazing for its time, from storyline, to art and character redesigns, to overall execution. I mean, they literally teased in Wizard (a big read at the time) that they were cancelling the X-Books. Do you know how insane of an idea that was for Marvel's cash cow at the time? Also, the story cemented Lobdell's overall philosophy that Xavier was the key to everything, and without him and his philosophy, the world would be in massive trouble. Besides that, it was just damned fun to read: you knew it was going to end, the good guys would win, and reality changed back to normal, but the journey itself was incredible.
As far as big epic crossovers go, AoA was the last good one from Marvel that i can recall, at least involving the X-Men. It was not without its problems, but the positives far outweighed the negatives. I had a lot of fun with it. It's a masterpiece compared with AvX.
definitely in my top five, if not no 1 overall.
to have all those existing books 'cancelled' and replaced with new books, and it ran across all the x-men titles. it was so awesome. the new character redesigns was amazing as well.
my only regret was that if only it had better artists.
VIVA KUSASAN!!! Morrison On Magneto: I made him into a stupid old drug-addicted idiot. CC had done a lot of good work over the years to redeem the character. And I went in and sh*t on all of it.
One of the strong point was that, at that time, all tritles were 'cancelled' and replaced by the Age of Apocalypse. So many thought the 616 was gone for good. That made the crossover much more exiting.
Reeding it back and knowing it's just temporary, makes it a bit less exiting.
AoA is there in my top 5, along with House of M, Age of X, Onslaught and Secret Invasion.
The current series is done very well. If you didn't buy it yet, I do strongly suggest buying it!

It's not among my top 10 X-Men stories of all time, but I would seriously consider it for "best X-Men story of the 1990s" and "top five X-Men related crossovers".
