If he quits the book...I will still continue to read/buy it (because of Azzarello) but rest assured I will only be spending the requisite 3 mins reading it (just once, mind you) before I move on to Wood/Coipel's X-Men where I will devote a huge amount of time languishing over the art.
But.. Even if Chiang left, that doesn't necessarily mean that Akins will fall-in as regular. I remember a Pod-Cast with Akins where he said he initially did not want the Wonder Woman assignment, but Azzarello talked him into it. I'm sure if he was approached to do it full time he probably would not do it.

Also, if Akins isn't it, and someone else fills-in full time after Chiang, there's no telling who it will be. Who knows? Maybe we'll luck out! I don't particularly L.O.V.E. Chiang's work, but I must admit I like it better than Akins. To me, Chiang feels like he draws very quickly.. but there have been some pages he has done which are flawless.

My comics-reading experience is very much art-oriented, so I feel you.

But Akins has never been the "fill-in" artist. It's a rotating art team so he is just as much the regular artist as Chiang is.

And if Chiang has left, which would be a mild tragedy, then Akins sure as hell can't handle this book alone. He can't even get two issues in a row done without help. They brought in an inker to help out ith #6, KANO did half of #10 and Akins only did the layouts for #14 with two other artists doing the finishes. I don't actually mind Akins art, when he's good he is actually good, but it's just that half the time it feels like he's half-arsing it.

If Chiang leaves, I'll probably relegate this book to trade waiting.

I know they are rotatiing...it just seems as though we get more Akin and far less Chiang. And I agree Akin is not bad but...even with Dan Green on inks, he is no Chiang. To me, there is something missing between art and story when Akin illustrates as compared to when Chiang is on board. I am far less inclined to re-read an Akin-illustrated issue...And I love to re-read and re-read my books. Sadly, Akin's art is not "languishable".
As Rob intimated, I am quite art-oriented even more-so with the comics I read...if the art is not up to my taste/so-so then I am not going to be too interested in the story no matter how exceptionally well it is written.

I commented on Cliff's blog, and he shot me an email.

I'm back on issue 20, after taking a break for the birth of my son. Thanks for asking!

As excuses go that's a pretty darn good one. Congrats to Cliff and his missus and also to their sprog. I hope they enjoy their sleepless nights.
