D-Deadman! You killed Deadman!!
This shouldn't surprise anyone.
Today, I make no demands... no threats! But, one day, I shall voice demands -- and all shall obey them!
Part of me is happy but part of me is sad. Isn't there a way to compromise this?
Warner Bros issues a statement:
"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!"
I wonder if the Siegels and Shusters feel this way about Marc Toberoff right now:
If it had been Jerry or Joe filing the suit, I'd have been on their side.
I just don't see what business his relatives have at owning something they had NO hand in creating.
Superman does not belong in the ownership of a bunch of strangers with no interest in making comic books.
Quoted for absolute truth. You sir, are a badass.
I completely understand the copyright laws as they exist, and I get why they had a *legal* right to fight for it. But I agree, it's stupid that this went on this long. Jerry & Joe I could get behind, but not their descendents.
I feel great about this news. If the Heirs would win the rights to Superman I feel they would have killed the comic so I have no sympathy for the family trying to get a bigger paycheck for something their father did.
Boom. That's what you get for being greedy over a character you (the heirs) had nothing to do with.
Seriously mad respect to the creators, but the Superman we know today is due to WB. They nurtured and developed the character over the decades.
This seems like the right outcome. The Court pointed out that the heirs' lawyer sent a letter accepting the lucrative deal set out by DC and called it a "monumental accord." Seems wrong for them to then argue they didn't agree and want more money. Especially because this is not the first time DC has paid additional money beyond the small sum paid in 1938. Everyone seems to discount DC's and WB's contribution. Without the development by these companies, Superman would just be a good idea that could've been great. And it's not like DC gets money back for all the bad ideas they've purchased and published.
Isn't there a percent of money earned or a sum they were going to get as per the old agreement? Don't they get it anyway?
Just glad Toberoff gets nothing. He's a creeper.
The Siegels and Shuster's lawyers will probably have a new lawsuit set up if Man of Steel surpasses box office expectations this summer.
Because they were trying to get the money so that it would go to their families not so that it would go some Fat Cats that did little else than take the Lion's Share for their effort.
Sort of how you would rather your desendants to keep the House you built instead of giving it to Mitt Romney.
I've got mixed feelings, on the one hand that contract was very unfair on the other hand Superman is safe in DC... the other hand seems almost selfish from my part.
...And does Mr. Goddanm Batman says so much as ''Thanks''? OF COURSE not. That'd hardly be GRIM AND GRITTY, would it?
The jerk...
-DKU's Jim Gordon.
To tell the truth I have mixed feeling. Were it the original creators I would be 100% on their side. As for their descendents they should get compensated but no way should they have the Superman rights turned over to them because they happen to have the right DNA.
